The Voice Season 30 Eliminations, So Far After Battles Round Part 2
Randy Neelly (Team Riley)
Brandy Neelly was eliminated from The Voice Season 30 during the first Battle Round. She competed against sisters Ferryn and Brinkley, and all three ladies performed Mama’s Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert. “Man, Brandy, it’s hard to compete…but you shine through!” Kelly Clarkson told Neelly before giving advice to Riley Green, “I would lean a little towards Ferryn and Brinkley.” Queen Latifah praised Neelly as well, saying, “Brandy, you got some fire.” Green then admitted, “Brandy, you did make me a cake!” but ultimately chose Ferryn and Brinkley to move on to Cut Week.
Morgan Lett (Team Queen)
Morgan Lett’s journey on The Voice Season 30 came to an end in Episode 7. She competed against Alt Bloom, with both performing Ex-Factor by Lauryn Hill. Queen Latifah was so impressed by their performances that she declared, “I’m not gonna pick!” Kelly Clarkson gushed, “Y’all just crushed Lauryn Hill on national television. People should generally not cover Lauryn Hill. That was so good,” while Riley Green remarked, “Morgan had so much energy the whole performance.” In the end, Alt Bloom came out as the winner and moved on in the competition.
Cal Cook (Team Adam)
Next, Cal Cook and Connor Closs took the stage to battle it out on Homewrecker by Sombr. After hearing both contestants sing, Kelly Clarkson praised their performances, saying, “That was such great energy! Cal you were way up in the rafters and then came down and did something more in your chest voice. Connor, man, your runs, there is something about the roundness to your tones when you’re attacking the runs.” However, Adam Levine had to decide who would advance in the competition. He explained that his choice came down to a “fraction of a difference” before announcing Connor Closs as the winner.
Kenna Elpers (Team Riley)
Kenna Elpers faced Joe Henley in the Battle Round, and the two performed Don’t Mind If I Do by Riley Green. Well, that surely must have doubled the pressure! Adam Levine preferred Henley’s voice for its “distinctive quality” but assured Elpers, “You both did a fantastic job.” Queen Latifah agreed with Levine, noting, “Joe’s voice is just powerful.” When it was time to announce the winner, Green admitted, “It’s extremely tough.” But, as the coaches’ feedback had suggested, Green declared Joe Henley the winner, bringing Elpers’ journey on the show to an end.
Lance Tenazas (Team Kelly)
Lance Tenazas also had to leave the competition during Episode 7. He and Koumba Diallo performed Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, which is not an easy song to cover. After their Battle, Adam Levine couldn't believe Diallo was only 15 years old because her “voice is not.” He explained, “There’s so much power and presence on the stage.” Queen Latifah acknowledged that Kelly Clarkson had a “challenging decision to make” because it was “one seamless duet.” Before announcing the winner, Clarkson explained, “The reason why I’m going with this person isn't really because it’s the better singer. It’s just I think this particular singer will thrive in these conditions.” That singer was Koumba Diallo.
Caroline Alexis (Team Riley)
Caroline Alexis was sent home after losing her Battle to Everett Bounds. The two performed Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Kelly Clarkson called their duet “so fun” and said it was “pretty evenly matched.” Adam Levine “enjoyed” their performance, while Riley Green said they had both “turned the place into a honky-tonk.” Green also noted that Alexis had the “attitude” and was “sassy,” while Bounds didn’t take himself “too seriously,” adding that “that’s what the song’s about.” The coach admitted it was “tough” to choose between the two but ultimately named Everett Bounds the winner.
