Verity Cast: Meet Anne Hathaway and the Stars Bringing Colleen Hoover’s Novel to Life

Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is hired to complete the remaining book series of an incapacitated famous author. She accepts the job and relocates to the secluded Crawford estate because she is on the verge of financial ruin. At the film's UK premiere, Johnson shared her excitement about the adaptation, saying, “It's so thrilling, it's so s*xy. You are constantly trying to figure out what the truth is and who the good people are and who the bad people are. It's kind of a lot like life,” as quoted by Reuters.

Anne Hathaway takes on the titular role of famous, bestselling author Verity Crawford in the film adaptation. The novelist is left severely injured and unable to speak or move because of a mysterious car accident. That’s the reason Lowen was hired as her ghostwriter. While doing an interview with The Associated Press, Hathaway revealed what it was like filming the thriller. She shared, “There would be some shots where Dakota and I would just have to stare at each other. There’s just something about knowing that you’re supposed to be scary that makes you giggle.” Dakota Johnson felt the same way, as she noted, “It just seemed really fun to play somebody who’s deeply unwell.”

The husband of Verity, Jeremy Crawford, is played by Josh Hartnett. Jeremy is the one who hires Lowen to complete the series for his paralyzed wife. Hartnett did an interview with Metro recently, where he shared the awkwardness of filming intimate scenes with Dakota Johnson. He revealed, “Dakota and I didn’t know each other at all. We just became friends, and we had to kind of laugh it off because it’s a goofy situation. It’s not very normal.” Hartnett added while laughing, “There were days when people’s significant others would come in to set while we were doing that sort of stuff. We’re like, ‘Yeah, sorry, this is our job, this is our day job.’”

Ismael Cruz Córdova steps into the role of Corey, the literary agent and former romantic partner of Lowen Ashleigh. Fans may know Cruz Córdova from projects like Miss Bala, Settlers, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Finestkind, The Pickup, The Bluff, In the Blood, The Undoing, and Berlin Station.

Brady Wagner is cast as Crew Crawford, the five-year-old son of Verity and Jeremy. Crew is the only surviving child of the Crawford family, living with his parents at the Crawford estate. Apart from Verity, his other acting credit is his Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along, where he played Frank Jr.
