She “never fails to tug at the heartstrings,” and fans can't wait to check in on “Med fan favorite Dr. Hannah Asher as she navigates motherhood and shifting career dynamics now that she's a single mother.”
Luke Mitchell as Dr. Mitch Ripley
Luke Mitchell will once again appear as Dr. Mitch Ripley in the upcoming season, having joined Chicago Med in Season 9. NBC hints at what’s ahead for him, writing, “Season 11 was an emotional rollercoaster for Ripley after he navigated heartbreak and a shocking workplace romance with Dr. Caitlin Lenox,” and in Season 12, “he's set to deliver the same dynamite care he always has.”
Sarah Ramos as Dr. Caitlin Lenox
Sarah Ramos became part of the Chicago Med cast in Season 10, and she’s not going anywhere. Ramos is confirmed to step back into the role of Dr. Caitlin Lenox in Season 12. According to NBC, “As head of the Gaffney Emergency Department, Dr. Caitlin Lenox has little time to waste. And after the recent discovery of a terminal diagnosis, she's been burning the candle at both ends. Aside from her repressed medical turmoil, Ramos explored explosive chemistry with Ripley in Season 11, ultimately confessing her love for him by the season's end.”
Darren Barnet as Dr. John Frost
Darren Barnet’s character, Dr. John Frost, will be back for Season 12 as well. Barnet joined the medical drama alongside Sarah Ramos in Season 10. NBC’s preview reveals that “Barnet's Dr. John Frost is One Chicago's latest bachelor. While fans have adored watching him tackle romance at Gaffney and beyond, he remains single. After navigating personal turmoil with his parents, Frost will be grieving going into the upcoming season of Med.”
S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin
S. Epatha Merkerson is an original main cast member who plays Sharon Goodwin. She signed on to Chicago Med in its debut season and will once again step back into the role. NBC noted that, “Gaffney would be a pile of rubble if it weren't for Sharon Goodwin, the hospital's longtime director and biggest champion. A Med O.G. and cherished pillar of the hospital's success, Goodwin never fails to steal the show anytime she's on screen, with dozens of characters flocking to her for help over the years. But as Goodwin's job hangs in the balance, viewers are desperate to see how she gets out of this one.”
Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles
Oliver Platt joined Chicago Med in Season 1 as Dr. Daniel Charles, though his character was first introduced during Season 3 of Chicago Fire as part of a backdoor pilot to set up the spinoff. Platt is among the returning stars for the forthcoming season. The network shared that, “Every Emergency Department needs a trusted psychiatrist on deck, and Platt's Dr. Daniel Charles has been Gaffney's steadying force since Day 1. Dr. Charles is empathetic, witty, and gifted at sensing the core of a problem, helping with countless medical cases over the years. Despite some health hurdles in Season 11 of Med, fans can't wait to see him hit the ground running in Season 12.”
