The Diplomat Season 4 Cast: Who’s Returning as 2 Characters Exit and One Star’s Fate Remains Uncertain

Celia Imrie will not return as Margaret “Meg” Roylin in the upcoming installment. Why? Her character died by suic*de in the Season 3 premiere. This means fans can only hope to see her in flashbacks. Creator Debora Cahn, speaking to Tudum about Roylin’s death, explained, “Sometimes in order to be the person who rises to meet that moment, the game ends. Which is a terrible outcome. But Roylin considers herself a public servant and a servant to her country.”

Michael McKean will also not reprise his role as President Rayburn in Season 4. The reason is the same as Celia Imrie’s absence. Rayburn dies of a sudden heart attack at the end of Season 2, and his death is confirmed at the start of Season 3. So, like Imrie, McKean's character could only appear in flashbacks in the upcoming installment.

David Gyasi plays British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison in the political thriller series. His return remains uncertain, as Netflix has not included him in the cast list for Season 4. Is this a way to keep viewers guessing, or does it mean he will have less screen time? It’s hard to say. However, since Dennison survived the previous season and there has been no report of Gyasi’s exit, we can still expect him to return.
