Top 9 Movies to Watch in September 2026: From Avengers: Endgame Encore to Resident Evil

September is going to start with a bang or should we say a plank? Fall 2: Deadpoint, a survival thriller and sequel to 2022’s Fall, is scheduled to hit theaters on September 2. Lionsgate describes the sequel as, “On a perilous climb across Thailand's Mount Kwan, two climbers become trapped thousands of feet above the ground, where vertigo-inducing heights, sheer exposure, and impossible odds turn every moment into a fight for survival.” The first movie was also quite similar, with two best friends getting abandoned on a 2,000-foot-tall tower. The stakes are higher this time, with the duo stranded on a fragile plank 3,000 feet above the ground.

We take no criticism of Sandra Bullock in this house! And she is coming back to the big screen on September 10 with Practical Magic 2. According to Warner Bros., the sequel “returns to a world steeped in moonlit mischief and powerful ancestral magic, as the Owens sisters must confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all in a must-see cinematic event of fun, magic and mayhem.” Bullock plays Sally Owens, while Maisie Williams stars as Antonia Owens, Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens, and Joey King as Kylie Owens.

Andrew Garfield fans will see him leading a rebellion against a tyrannical king in The Uprising (hence the title). The action period drama, based on the historic English Peasants' Revolt of 1381 and the real events that inspired the legend of Robin Hood, will arrive in domestic theaters on September 11. The movie “brings to life the untold true story of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II.” The synopsis further reads, “As war burns across England, an army of commoners rises to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.” Also, if anyone could make a peasant look handsome, it would be Garfield.

Alan Ritchson has become synonymous with all things action, fighting bad guys, and throwing punches, so it’s no surprise that his upcoming movie is also an action flick. Runner is about “a former soldier (Ritchson) is thrown into a brutal race against time when a critical medical delivery makes him and his unlikely partner (Owen Wilson) the targets of a ruthless cartel. As the mission spirals into a deadly manhunt, every detour, delay, and bullet pushes them closer to failure. With betrayal closing in from every side, they must survive the chase and deliver their cargo to save the life of a little girl.” The film is hitting theaters on September 11.

September 18 is booked for the Depression-era movie The Weight, which is set in Oregon in 1933. As per the official logline, “When Samuel (Ethan Hawke) is torn from his daughter and sent to a brutal prison, Warden Clancy (Russell Crowe) offers him a high-stakes proposition: smuggle gold out of a remote mine with a dangerous crew of prisoners and he’ll win his freedom.”

On the same date, September 18, Resident Evil is also set to make its theatrical debut. But, it will target a different audience. The new live-action reboot is being described as a “thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise,” which follows “Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.” The movie is written and directed by Zach Cregger, known for Weapons and Barbarian, so it will definitely be worth your time. 

PTSD gets real in Heart of the Beast. Paramount describes the film as an “intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet.” According to the logline, “After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces officer James Belmont (Brad Pitt) and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements.” Heart of the Beast is making its way to theaters on September 25.

Avengers: Endgame released in 2019, but fans are getting a chance to watch the movie again in theaters. In Avengers: Endgame - Encore, the whole story is, of course, intact, but fans are noticing some scenes that have been enhanced from the original film in the trailer. There are some touches of color grading on selected shots, along with one little but notable change to one of Tony Stark’s lines. But the best part of the re-release is the promise of an “exclusive look” at Avengers: Doomsday, which will debut on December 18. It is safe to assume that the fresh footage will be shown after the credits. We know Marvel fans must be more than excited, but please, don’t go and sit there in theaters already. There’s a high chance the staff will kick you out. Encore will hit the big screen on September 25. 

Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson, is making its way to theaters on September 25. A24 is being kind of secretive about the crime thriller, as the synopsis is only a single line: “In 2006, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history.” Yeah, that’s it. To get a better idea about the plot, fans can watch the trailer, which is already out. Apart from Pattinson, Phoebe Bridgers, Skyler Gisondo, and Merritt Wever co-star.
