6 New Movies and TV Shows to Watch This Weekend on Paramount+, Netflix and More: From Tulsa King to Disclosure Day
VisionQuest
Marvel fans got a treat recently as VisionQuest finally premiered on Disney+. The first two episodes of the miniseries dropped on October 13. The double-episode release schedule will continue for the next two Wednesdays, after which the penultimate episode and finale will drop individually. VisionQuest is not a standalone story in the Marvel universe. It is the final part of a trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.
The synopsis reads: “The Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.”
The Lowdown Season 2
Season 2 of The Lowdown premiered its first two episodes on October 14 on FX and Hulu. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays thereafter. The series follows the “gritty exploits of citizen journalist Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke), a self-proclaimed Tulsa ‘truthstorian’ whose obsession with the truth is always getting him into trouble. While Lee’s no idealist, he’s fiercely committed to exposing corruption and unearthing the city’s hidden rot, even when it puts him at risk.” If you’re a fan of neo-noir shows, be sure to add The Lowdown to your watchlist because this drama won’t let you down!
Disclosure Day
Viewers who have been curious about what would be disclosed in Disclosure Day finally have the chance to find out. The film, which debuted in theaters in June, became available for streaming on Peacock starting October 9. Here’s the official logline: “If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? Now the truth belongs to seven billion people in an original event film.” You’ll have to watch the film to find out what that truth really is!
The Diplomat Season 4
After a full year of waiting, Netflix has finally debuted Season 4 of The Diplomat. All eight episodes dropped at once, following the streamer's usual release strategy. In the latest installment, “two marriages threaten to eat each other alive. One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save. While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and VP Hal Wyler’s (Rufus Sewell) conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon could hurtle the United States toward war. Kate and Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford), at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.”
Tulsa King Season 4
In Tulsa King Season 4, “Dwight (Sylvester Stallone) fights to legitimize his empire and protect his crew as corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies, and a crushing personal loss hit from every direction. Each move drags Dwight deeper into the street instincts he left behind in New York, turning Tulsa into a battleground and Dwight into the one threat no one can afford to underestimate.” The new installment premieres on October 16 on Paramount+, with episodes scheduled to drop weekly on Fridays until the season finale on December 18.
Matchbox: The Movie
Matchbox: The Movie, starring John Cena, Jessica Biel, and Sam Richardson, is inspired by Mattel toys. It is an “action-packed, globetrotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have their lives upended when undercover CIA agent Sean (Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town and unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit to save the world.” The film premiered on Apple TV+ on October 9 and is now available to stream.
