6 New Movies and TV Shows to Watch This Weekend on Hulu, Netflix and More

If you’ve ever wondered whether Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey could actually be related, then Brothers is a must-watch for you! It is a “heartfelt, chaotic and wildly funny story,” in which McConaughey and Harrelson play fictionalized versions of themselves. According to Apple TV, “After Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, he loads up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch. But what begins as a healing getaway quickly spirals when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, accidentally lets slip a long-buried secret that the two friends might actually be brothers. As Woody turns the ranch upside down in pursuit of the truth, Matthew finds himself juggling an entirely different identity crisis: a potential run for Governor of Texas.” The series debuted its first two episodes on September 23, with new episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays through November 4.

Netflix’s A Different World is a sequel series to the classic sitcom of the same name, which ran for six seasons. As per the streamer, the new series follows “Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest daughter of Hillman legends Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), as she begins her own journey at the fictional HBCU alongside a new generation of students, played by Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Kennedi Reece.” And Netflix really knows how to spoil its subscribers because A Different World dropped all 10 episodes at once on September 24.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s name alone should convince you to watch Best of the Best, the dance-based comedy that was released on Netflix on September 18. The movie is about “two childhood best friends, Maya (Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Priyanka Kedia), who join UCLA's competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team, only to discover that the road to winning the US championship is far more raucous and cutthroat than they ever imagined.” Make sure you have your dancing shoes on before you hit play.

Are you in the mood for something horror? If so, we have just the show for you! American Horror Story Season 13 debuted on September 24, with a three-episode premiere on FX and Hulu. Next week, on October 1, there will be another three episodes (4–6), and after that, two episodes will drop weekly, except on October 29, when the single-episode finale will air. FX has not revealed much about the plot of the latest season. We only know that, “This chapter is a love letter to AHS history, albeit one written in blood. A present-day crisis pulls in characters from earlier installments as the number 13 keeps showing up with increasingly sinister consequences.” Looks like they want fans to be on their toes!

S.W.A.T. Exiles is a spin-off of the 2017 series S.W.A.T., and Shemar Moore is returning in the lead role of Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. The synopsis gives us an idea of what to expect from his return: “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city — and saving the program that made him who he is.” The 10-episode season is scheduled to premiere on September 25, with new installments dropping weekly on Fridays.

The Love Hypothesis has finally come out of the pages! The movie adaptation, based on Ali Hazelwood’s 2021 novel of the same name, is currently streaming on Prime Video after releasing on September 23. It follows “Olive (Lili Reinhart), a brilliant Ph.D. candidate focused on her future in academia. But when she realizes her best friend Anh (Rachel Marsh) has fallen for her crush Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to prove she’s moved on. What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.” Don’t know about love, but the film is most definitely worth it.
