Netflix Renews 5 Popular Shows, Including Black Mirror and The Gentlemen

Black Mirror has officially been renewed for Season 8, with Netflix confirming that filming is currently taking place in the United Kingdom. But, this comes as no surprise, as creator Charlie Brooker had already teased the show's return in January. Speaking to Tudum, Brooker said, “Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever.” He added, “I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.” Meanwhile, Netflix describes the sci-fi series as “Twisted tales run wild in this mind-bending anthology series that reveals humanity's worst traits, greatest innovations and more.”

Legends is coming back for Season 2 as well, with production slated to begin in 2027. Neil Forsyth’s crime drama stars Tom Burke, Steve Coogan, and Hayley Squires. The series “explores the identities (or ‘legends’) built by a team of ordinary Customs employees as they dove deep into the criminal underworld.” Netflix confirms Season 2 will continue to “follow the undercover operatives who infiltrated Britain’s most dangerous drug gangs in the 1990s.”

Netflix is not letting go of Theo James anytime soon, and honestly, we’re not complaining. The Gentlemen, starring James and Kaya Scodelario, has been picked up for another instalment ahead of its Season 2 debut, which will arrive on September 3. Creator and director Guy Ritchie addressed the early Season 3 renewal, saying, “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.” The series follows a British soldier who “unexpectedly inherits his family’s estate — and the enormous weed empire he never knew existed.”

House of Guinness has also been given another season. “It was such a joy to bring the Guinness story to the screen, so I’m beyond thrilled to be continuing the story of one of the world’s greatest dynasties into Season 2,” notes creator Steven Knight. In the upcoming instalment, the historical drama will “delve into the next chapter for 19th-century siblings Arthur (Anthony Boyle), Edward (Louis Partridge), Anne (Emily Fairn), and Benjamin (Fionn O’Shea), along with their spouses, lovers, foes, and friends, like family fixer Sean Rafferty (James Norton).”

Netflix recently refreshed fans’ memories about Black Doves Season 2, although the spy thriller was already greenlit for another instalment in November last year. The streamer announced that the series is “back in production in and around London with even more stars added to the dossier.” At the time, Netflix also teased the Season 2 storyline, revealing, “Helen (Keira Knightley) is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organization she serves, the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband, Wallace (Andrew Buchan), preparing to become prime minister, she’s walking a more treacherous line than ever.” A release date for the new season has not been announced yet.
