Marshals Season 2: All the characters leaving and returning to Yellowstone spinoff after possible deaths
Luke Grimes
Marshals wrapped up its first season on May 24, but fans did not have to wait for good news after the finale. Earlier, just 12 days after the show premiered in March 2026, CBS officially renewed the Yellowstone spinoff for Season 2. Now viewers are wondering which familiar faces will return for the next chapter. One actor who is almost certainly staying put is Luke Grimes. After all, the series is about Kayce Dutton, making him the heart of the story. In Marshals, Kayce steps away from the Yellowstone ranch and joins a specialized U.S. Marshals unit operating in Montana. Using his ranching instincts along with his former Navy SEAL training, he tackles dangerous cases across the region while trying to bring a rough form of justice to the frontier.
Logan Marshall-Green
The future of Logan Marshall-Green on Marshals looks far less certain after the Season 1 finale. Marshall-Green plays Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Pete “Cal” Calvin. In the closing moments of the episode, Cal and Belle, played by Arielle Kebbel, ride into a remote area while Kayce is away with Dolly. They suddenly come under attack from a group of armed assailants waiting for them nearby. Gunfire erupts almost instantly, but before viewers learn whether either character survives, the screen abruptly cuts to black. The cliffhanger left fans scrambling online with theories about Cal’s fate, and as of now, CBS has not confirmed whether Marshall-Green or Kebbel will return for Season 2.
Arielle Kebbel
Arielle Kebbel may also not be guaranteed to return for Season 2 of Marshals after the finale left her character’s fate unclear. Kebbel plays Deputy U.S. Marshal Isabel “Belle” Turek-Skinner, who ends up caught in a dangerous operation during the closing moments of the season. While investigating alongside team leader Pete “Cal” Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle walks straight into what appears to be a planned attack. The pair suddenly find themselves trapped under heavy gunfire, with bullets flying from multiple directions. Before viewers discover whether either officer survives, the episode abruptly cuts away, ending the season on a tense cliffhanger. Because of that final scene, fans are now questioning whether Belle will make it out alive when the series returns.
Ash Santos
Ash Santos is expected to return for Season 2 of Marshals, even though her character appeared ready to leave Montana in the Season 1 finale. Santos plays Deputy U.S. Marshal Andrea Cruz, who finally accepts a long-awaited promotion in Washington, D.C. Before leaving, Andrea says goodbye to her team and helps investigate the violent East Camp attacks during her final days on the job. Although the storyline suggested a possible exit, Santos recently hinted to PEOPLE that Andrea’s story is far from over. The actress teased that viewers will see a very different version of the character next season, saying “I think we'll start to see a side of Andrea that's almost opposite to how we met her in season 1.”
Tatanka Means
Fans likely will not have to worry about Tatanka Means leaving Marshals anytime soon. Means plays Miles Kittle, and the Season 1 finale strongly hinted that his story will continue into the next chapter. During the closing episodes, Miles finally receives good news when team leader Pete Calvin restores him to active duty. The decision keeps him on the task force after earlier uncertainty surrounding his future. With his position secured by the end of the season, Miles appears set to remain part of the core team when Season 2 returns to CBS.
Brecken Merrill
Brecken Merrill is also expected to return for Season 2 of Marshals, although his character ends the finale in serious danger. Merrill plays Tate Dutton, the teenage son of Kayce and the late Monica Dutton. During the final episode, Tate is taken to Texas by wealthy rancher Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) after Kayce believes the trip will keep his son away from danger following a violent attack at East Camp. But, viewers later learn that Weaver is secretly connected to the attacks targeting the Dutton family and Thomas Rainwater. The twist leaves Kayce completely unaware that Tate has been placed directly in the hands of an enemy.
Mo Brings Plenty
Mo Brings Plenty appears set to continue his role in Season 2 of Marshals. His character, Mo, remains one of the closest allies to Thomas Rainwater, played by Gil Birmingham. He often helps maintain peace between the Broken Rock reservation and federal authorities connected to Kayce Dutton. By the end of Season 1, Mo found himself at the center of one of the show’s most dangerous confrontations. During the violent attack at East Camp, he stepped up to defend Rainwater and Tate Dutton when armed enemies targeted the group in a deadly assassination attempt.
Gil Birmingham
Gil Birmingham is also expected to return for Season 2 of Marshals after playing a major part in the show’s first season. Birmingham portrays Thomas Rainwater in the Yellowstone spinoff. Throughout the episodes, Rainwater repeatedly found himself targeted by dangerous enemies and survived several assassination attempts. Despite the constant threats, the finale confirmed he made it out alive. Since the character remains connected to the larger story, Rainwater will likely continue playing an important role next season.
