Elsbeth Season 4: A look at all the major characters leaving and returning to the hit comedy-crime show
Carrie Preston
Following the Season 3 finale of Elsbeth, which aired on CBS on May 21, fans are already looking ahead to the show’s confirmed fourth season and wondering which familiar faces will return. One cast member viewers definitely should not worry about is Carrie Preston. Since the series revolves around Elsbeth Tascioni, her return is practically guaranteed. Preston has led the crime comedy-drama from the beginning, bringing the quirky attorney to life with her unusual investigative style and sharp observations. The character first appeared in The Good Wife before later showing up in The Good Fight. In Elsbeth, she continues using her clever instincts to crack difficult cases, and Season 4 is expected to feature even more mysteries for her to solve.
Wendell Pierce
Viewers can also expect Wendell Pierce to remain part of Elsbeth when the series returns for Season 4. Pierce has been with the CBS drama since its debut season and plays Captain Charles Wallace “C.W.” Wagner. He’s the respected leader of the NYPD precinct where Elsbeth works. His character often balances Elsbeth Tascioni’s unconventional methods while supporting her investigations throughout the series. Since Pierce continues to be a core member of the cast and no exit reports or storyline hints suggest otherwise, fans should expect to see Captain Wagner back alongside Elsbeth for another round of investigations next season.
Ben Levi Ross
Ben Levi Ross is also going to return for Elsbeth Season 4 after recent storylines strongly pointed toward more screen time for Teddy Tascioni. Ross joined the CBS series during Season 2 as Elsbeth’s son. In Season 3, Teddy struggled with planning a grand proposal for his boyfriend Roy, played by Hayward Leach. He seemed unsure about making such a big romantic gesture, but Elsbeth encouraged him to embrace the moment and stop overthinking everything. By the end of the storyline, Teddy and Roy became engaged, setting up what could become an important part of Season 4. The upcoming season will most likely explore the couple’s wedding preparations.
Carra Patterson
Carra Patterson may not have a guaranteed full-time role in Elsbeth Season 4, but fans still have good reason to stay optimistic about Kaya Blanke’s future on the series. Patterson has been part of the show since the very first episode, originally appearing as Officer Kaya Blanke before the character later earned a promotion to detective. Although she shifted from series regular to recurring guest star in Season 3, the finale avoided giving Kaya a complete goodbye. Her latest promotion requires another move, yet the final scenes hinted that she could still pop in from time to time. Executive producer Jonathan Tolins also told TV Insider that, “We think Elsbeth and Kaya is kind of a magical combination and we love having her.”
Sarah Steele
Although Sarah Steele is not part of the main cast, there is a strong chance fans will see her again in Elsbeth Season 4. Steele joined the CBS drama during Season 3, first appearing in Episode 5 as Marissa Gold, a character viewers already knew from The Good Wife and The Good Fight. In the latest season, Marissa worked as a campaign manager for New York City mayoral candidate Alec Bloom (Ivan Hernandez) while appearing in both guest and recurring roles. Even though no official Season 4 casting announcement has been made yet, executive producer Jonathan Tolins has already hinted that the creative team would like to bring Steele back for more episodes.
Ivan Hernandez
It looks like Ivan Hernandez is set to reprise his role as Alec Bloom in Elsbeth Season 4, picking up where he left off in Season 3. Hernandez made his debut in Episode 5 as a recurring guest, portraying the New York City mayoral candidate. During the season, Alec and Elsbeth shared a romantic connection, though the relationship ended before the finale. With Bloom’s election victory, however, the storyline leaves plenty of room for future interactions between him and Elsbeth. Executive producer Jonathan Tolins remarked that, “All that leave stuff for us to play with.” As a result, viewers can anticipate Alec Bloom appearing again.
