Chad Powers Season 2 Cast: All the Major Characters Returning and Leaving Hulu’s Sports Comedy

The lead star, Glen Powell, is obviously coming back for Season 2. Just like in Season 1, he will be playing both Russ Holliday and his Chad Powers alter ego. For those who don’t know, the character of Chad Powers takes inspiration from Eli Manning’s undercover appearance at Penn State on Eli’s Places (ESPN) in 2022. Disney describes his role as: “Russ was once a promising college quarterback, but a major mistake brought his career to an abrupt end. Eight years later, he disguises himself as the eccentric Chad Powers to earn another shot at pro-ball through a walk-on tryout for the struggling South Georgia Catfish.”

Interestingly, Powell not only stars in the show, but also co-created it with Michael Waldron. He is also credited as a co-writer and executive producer. And who doesn’t know Powell? He is famous for his roles in The Running Man, Anyone But You, Hit Man, Twisters, How to Make a Killing, and Set It Up.

Perry Mattfeld is also returning to the series as Ricky Hudson, the “Offensive Assistant Coach determined to make a name for herself in college football.” Ricky and Chad “begin working together when they find themselves stuck on the sidelines, but their growing connection makes Russ’s secret harder to manage.” In the Season 1 finale, she finally found out about his disguise and was not happy about it at all. It will be interesting to see how their relationship moves forward from there. Meanwhile, fans may know Mattfeld from In the Dark, The Idea of You, Mending the Line, Who Invited Them, Shameless, Long Bright River, and The Girl in the Flammable Skirt. 

Frankie A. Rodriguez is joining the Season 2 lineup again as Danny, the Team mascot whose “quick thinking helps Russ develop and maintain the Chad Powers persona.” And as the “disguise becomes more complicated, Danny helps solve the many problems that follow and later joins Russ on a risky mission behind enemy lines.” Rodriguez is best known for playing Carlos in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. He has also appeared in Only Children and Will & Grace.

Steve Zahn slips back into the shoes of Coach Jake Hudson, who is “responsible for leading the South Georgia Catfish through a difficult period.” He suffered a heart attack in the Season 1 finale after finding out that his wife, Wendy, had slept with Russ Holliday. Fortunately, he was saved after Chad Powers rushed him to the hospital, which was also when his identity was revealed to Ricky. Now, things are understandably going to be quite awkward heading into Season 2, especially with that revelation out in the open. Meanwhile, Zahn’s notable credits include Silo, Daddy Day Care, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Joy Ride, Anaconda, Saving Silverman, National Security, and Sahara.

Quentin Plair is once again playing Coach Byrd in the forthcoming season of Chad Powers. He is “part of the South Georgia coaching staff that is helping to turn the struggling Catfish around. His position puts him front and center as Chad’s rise creates new challenges for the staff.” Fans may recognize Plair from Tiny Beautiful Things, Not Without Hope, Welcome to Chippendales, and Roswell, New Mexico.

Colton Ryan is back in the game as well. So, no major exit (sigh of relief)! Ryan plays Gerry Dougan, the “South Georgia Catfish quarterback whose starting job is suddenly threatened by Chad’s arrival.” Throughout Season 1, he felt betrayed and sidelined (no pun intended) as his position was given to Chad Powers. It remains to be seen if Season 2 brings some good luck for Gerry or not. Ryan previously appeared in The Girl from Plainville, Dear Evan Hansen, Little Voice, and Uncle Frank.
