New TV Shows and Movies to Watch on HBO Max This October 2026

Viewers who like to solve cases before the courtroom drama’s protagonists do, this one is for you! HBO describes War as a “high-stakes, legal drama” that follows the “lives of London’s most powerful lawyers as firms Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne clash over a headline-grabbing legal battle, drawing ambitious young lawyer Jonathan “Johnny” Warren (Archie Renaux) into a ruthless world where ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy, and winning is everything.” Season 1, consisting of eight episodes, is set to make its debut on October 1, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. The streamer has also revealed what to expect from the first season: “Season one follows the explosive divorce of British tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson (Dominic West) and international film star Carla Duval (Sienna Miller), as Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne stop at nothing to secure victory for their clients.”

The Torment synopsis sounds very similar to a dozen other series from the past, but we’re hoping HBO makes this one stand out. The official logline reads: “A disgraced journalist returns to her hometown and sets out to investigate the unsolved disappearance of a childhood friend.” Season 1 of the crime investigation drama is set to debut on October 2, but the streamer has not specified its release schedule. However, as is the modus operandi of HBO Max, it will likely follow a weekly release schedule as well.

Well, HBO knows how to take female rage very, very seriously. Rage, a Spanish series whose original title is Furia, is a “contemporary portrait of five women: five female characters who lead this surprising, realistic, and intense drama.” Season 2 will premiere on HBO Max on October 9, with the rest of the episodes dropping weekly on Fridays. In the upcoming installment, “Several women become trapped in a market-driven system where everything is liable to become a lucrative spectacle. They will all have to face these harsh situations with the only weapon they have left: rage.”

Based on Freida McFadden’s novel of the same name, The Housemaid is billed as a “wildly entertaining thriller.” The film was originally released in December 2025 and later became available to stream on Starz in April. Now, HBO Max is adding the title to its library on October 9. The synopsis reads, “Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.” And the only piece of advice you’re going to need before pressing play is: It’s not what it looks like.

The title pretty much reveals what the movie is about: The Death of Robin Hood. It is a dark action thriller and a revisionist adaptation of the traditional folklore. The film stars “Hugh Jackman as an aged Robin Hood, whose guilt over his outlaw past has led him to a self-imposed exile. After being gravely injured in a raid, he is taken in by a priory where he befriends an orphaned girl.” Originally released in theaters in June, The Death of Robin Hood will be available to stream on HBO Max on October 16.

The Invite will make you wonder if inviting your neighbors over for dinner is a good idea or a bad one, because that’s where the film leaves viewers with its open ending. A24 describes the movie as: “Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?” To watch the dark comedy-drama, you’ll need to renew your HBO Max subscription because it’s coming to the platform on October 23.
