6 new movies and shows to watch this weekend on Netflix, Prime Video and more

Netflix dropped the second installment of teenage sleuth drama, A Good Girls Guide to Murder. Grittier and darker than its predecessor, the series sees the return of Pippa Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) ready to crack a new case. The six-episode season picks up in the aftermath of Season 1's storyline solving what happened to missing student Andie Bell (India Lillie Davies).

Still running in hot at the cinemas, Star Wars' The Mandalorian and Grogu brings back iconic duo, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and the Yoda wunderkind. The Jon Favreau-directed film follows the bounty hunter enlisted by the New Republic to find and rescue Rotta the Hutt in exchange for information on a high-value target.

Prime Video had another superhero show in the offing right after 'The Boys' Season 5 ended. This time, it was Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage as an aging and weary PI and web-slinger solving crime in '30s New York. Adding to the tone is the streamer releasing the series n both a black-and-white and a fully colored version.

The Backrooms was somewhat of a modern-day urban legend after claims that they were a dimension between dimensions discovered by accident. This spawned a bunch of theories on the internet, making it a space for unsettling empty mazes and unexplained creatures. Directed by YouTuber Kane Parsons and written by Will Soodik, the film releases May 29.

The next major project from the creators of Stranger Things, The Boroughs on Netflix has to be one of the most-awaited releases of the month. Starring Alfred Molina in the lead, the series follows a group of unlikely heroes from a retirement community team up to stop an otherworldly threat.

The Andy Serkis' helmed animated-comedy drama has been one of the pleasant surprises of the year. A hit with critics and fans, the movie is loosely based on the 1945 novella by George Orwell. The movie follows a pig rebels against a tyrannical boar, declaring all animals are equal. Wise-cracking animals in typical Serkis tone makes it a must-watch.
