AUSTIN, TEXAS: Heidi Broussard's body has been laid to rest after it was recovered last week. Broussard and her baby daughter were reported missing on December 12. The baby was returned to the family after DNA testing confirmed her identity.

The 33-year-old mother lived in Austin, Texas with her family, including her fiancé, Shane Carey, and her six-year-old son, Silas. She and her daughter Margot Carey were reported missing December 12.

Shane Carey had previously turned to the public to seek help in finding her. According to earlier reports, Margot Carey was found in a home in Houston last week.

The slain body of her mother was found in the trunk of a vehicle on the same property. The Harris County Insitute of Forensic Sciences performed an autopsy, which determined that Broussard died by strangulation. Her place of death was listed as the trunk of the vehicle she was found in.

Meanwhile, 33-year-old Magen Fieramusca has been arrested following the discovery of the body. Fieramusca is reported to have been a close friend of the victim.

Having allegedly masterminded the kidnappings, Fieramusca has been charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of tampering with a corpse in connection with the December 12 abduction of Broussard and Margo, according to a spokesperson from the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.

"She was supposedly Heidi's friend for a long time," a member of Broussard's family told People. "We've been knowing her for a long time."

Broussard's funeral was held on Saturday, December 28, afternoon in her hometown at Lake Charles, Indiana, according to CNN

"Heidi was infectious," said Cari Laughlin, a friend of Broussard to KTRK. "She was a free spirit. She didn't want to be put in a cage. She was fun. We laughed a lot. She understood. She would have done anything for anybody."

According to Heidi Broussard's obituary, Broussard loved animals and was studying to be a veterinary technician. She will be remembered for her adventurous and giving spirit.
