Freeform’s thriller drama ‘Siren’ is all set to enter the third season with plenty of intrigues and mystery. Fans have also set high expectations for the upcoming season which is premiering on April 2. The official trailer has hinted at a  gripping plotline and has already grabbed our attention. It also teased tension between humans and merpeople.

While the mermaids are striving for a life that would bring to them the peace which has been affected by the greedy humans, marine biologists Maddie and Ben (Alex Roe) have taken it upon themselves to instill some order in a rather chaotic society.

Hinting at some groundbreaking moments in the upcoming season, Fola Evans-Akingbola, who essays Madeline "Maddie" Bishop, told MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) in an exclusive interview, “Things will definitely change in a big way. Maddie has to adapt to the kind of new dynamic.”

"She's a bit more independent in Season three and tries to do a bit more research by herself, and that kind of leads her to meet someone, who you'll probably meet quite early in the season. But at least someone who kind of opens up some new possibilities in terms of what she wants for her life. But at the core, Maddie always loves Ryn and cares about what happens. The storyline with the mermaid pulls Maddie back towards what’s going on with the merpeople,” she added.

The official trailer sees Ryn Fisher (Eline Powell) embracing her child, who was born in a human body. Reflecting on the new development in Ryn’s story arc, Evans-Akingbola said, “It's unexpected and kind of turns the world upside down again because they weren't expecting a baby to come into the picture. And with new life, priorities always get rearranged.”

Although Ryn and they (Maddie and Ben) are worlds apart in terms of their existence, Evans-Akingbola says, “we all actually care about protecting the ocean and protecting mermaids, but we're all coming at it through different methods.”

Told about the entry of a new mermaid Tia and her intentions of starting a war with humans as a revenge for all the damage they’ve caused to the merpeople, she responded, “Tia has a really interesting character because on one hand I actually understand the reasons behind what she does in this season. And as the season comes out, everyone will be able to see how she evolves.”

Evans-Akingbola added that Ryn similarly represents “this clash between the ocean and humans. Because when she's in the middle of that, literally she’s mermaid over the ocean and yet she has built these relationships and this love on land. And so she literally got one foot on land and one foot in the ocean.”

We need to wait and watch if the new mermaid Tia could alter Ryn’s opinion of mankind and seek her help in expanding their species and taking over the ocean which she believes always belonged to them.

Season 3 of 'Siren' premieres on April 2 on Freeform.
