Florida police reported how a passenger on a private flight who was heading out of Key West was struck by a propeller severing one of her arms on Saturday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is handling the case, 45-year-old Rebecca Lynn Gray, of Fort Myers, was rushed to Lower Keys Medical Center before being airlifted to a Miami hospital in stable condition, Miami Herald reports.

The mishap occurred at around 8.45 pm on Saturday at the Key West International Airport.

Walter Gray, 46, her husband, was the pilot of the single-propeller Cessna 172S and witnessed the horrific incident. The aircraft was rented out of Fort Myers, per the report.

According to a spokesman for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the woman's foot was also severed during the incident. However, the Florida Highway Patrol said they could only confirm she had lost an arm.

On a fateful evening, Walter Gray was trying to taxi the plane on the runway, but it wouldn't budge whatsoever.

In order to check if the plane's tires were still in the wheel chocks, he alighted from the plane while it was still running. The chocks are wedges of sturdy material placed against a plane's wheels to prevent it from moving accidentally.

While getting out, he had instructed his wife to stay inside the plane as he checked what was wrong. However, she got out nonetheless.

Gray then instructed his wife not to go to the front of the plane for her safety, but she didn't listen to him. And during an attempt to remove a chock from the plane's tires, she came in contact with the high-speed propeller.

Key West Fire-Rescue immediately rushed Rebecca to Lower Keys Medical Center. She is now in stable condition.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
