A Florida woman who was caught on video stuffing her malnourished dog into a car trunk on Thursday, August 22,  has now been arrested and charged with animal abuse.

The woman, identified as 27-year-old Sara Perry, of Cocoa, Florida, was seen in a video shared by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office opening the trunk of her car and moving items aside before dragging the dog into the trunk, Daily Mail reports.

Perry is seen grabbing the dog, named Neptune, by its collar to push it all the way into the trunk before slamming the trunk closed.

At the end of the video, the 27-year-old is seen being placed in handcuffs as officers escort her to the police station.

"If you harm an animal in Brevard County, we're gonna put your butt straight in jail and do everything legally possible to make your life just as miserable as you made that pet's life," Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote alongside the video Facebook.

Speaking to Click Orlando, investigators said the footage also showed Perry parking her car before opening the trunk to get Neptune out.

The suspect reportedly went to the Humane Society of Brevard County the day she was caught on video to surrender the dog to the shelter.

However, they told her the shelter was full, with 42 dogs currently occupying 29 dog runs. In response, Perry apparently asked if they could put the dog down.

Speaking to the outlet, Humane Society of Brevard County executive director recounted, "She asked if we would euthanize it and we said we do not euthanize animals just because people don't want them and she got angry, so we gave her the information to go to another shelter."

Clifton said shelter workers dialed 911 after observing the way Perry yanked on the dog's leash as they left.

Police eventually tracked her down via her license plate.

According to Clifton, shelter workers did know Perry was keeping Neptune in the trunk of her car until the footage was reviewed.

"Had we known that she was doing that, we would have never allowed her to leave our facility," Clifton said.

Law enforcement revealed they went to Perry's home Thursday morning to check on the helpless dog when she told them she could not feed the animal.

Neptune was reportedly so emaciated that he was losing muscle mass, a veterinarian said.

"The abuse of this innocent pet makes absolutely no sense and can only be attributed to someone who has zero compassion for animals, and quite frankly, shouldn't be allowed to even own a plant, much less a pet," Ivey said, adding that Perry's alleged act was "despicable."

Perry was arrested and booked in Brevard County Jail on an animal cruelty charge. However, she has since been released after posting a $2,000 bond.

Perry is currently awaiting trial and is scheduled to be arraigned before a judge on Friday.
