DESTIN, FLORIDA: A 14-year-old girl installed a security camera in her bedroom after her mother refused to believe her when she claimed that her father had been physically abusing her for years.
According to Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, after watching two videos the teen recorded, authorities arrested 47-year-old Damon Becnel on January 2 on charges of child abuse and animal cruelty. The arrest warrant, obtained by People magazine, stated that in an incident on December 23, 2019, the suspect was spotted yelling at, and hitting the dog and the teen in the room..
In one of the clips from the footage since shared by the unidentified mother, who is divorced from the father, Becnel could be seen shouting, “I’m not going to be disrespected in my [expletive] house.”
Then the suspect was "seen pulling out a knife and pointing it at the dog while yelling ‘I will cut this f**king dog’s f**eyeballs out, I will do it'" as he complained about the canine "snapping" at him.
The man in the video was next seen striking the dog across the face and later, grabbing it by the mouth and throat, and throwing it from the bed to the ground. “I’m killing the dog!” he shouts, as the teenage victim pleaded to him. “Please, dad, no, you’re not! Dad, stop!" exclaimed the daughter.
According to the warrant, the girl jumped on her dad's back to stop him from hurting the pets when the man grabbed "the victim by the hair and pushes the victim’s head toward the bed, which makes contact with the bed frame/or post."
“Shut the f**k up,” the man said, as the teen was seen cowering in the corner of the room. Becnel at one point, turned to exit the room, but changed his mind and began yelling at his daughter. He also allegedly head-butted her.
“The victim’s head can be heard bouncing off the wall behind her and she immediately begins crying,” according to the warrant.
The teen victim's parents are caught up in a lengthy child custody dispute after filing for divorce in 2005.
"Nothing was done. Nothing has ever been done to help my daughter," her mother told NBC15. "She absolutely knew that something bad was going to happen and nobody would believe her unless she had that on film. She is one strong and one smart little girl and I couldn't be more proud of her."
