There was no dearth of accusations during the first presidential debate 2020, which took place in Cleveland on September 29. Both President Trump and Joe Biden tried drawing attention to some of their opponent's mishaps from the past while presenting their arguments. In one of the segments, while discussing the prevailing issue of racism and law and order to eradicate the same, POTUS called out Biden on the stage for allegedly calling American Africans "superpredators" during his 1993 speech.  Trump said "You called 'them' super predators. And African Americans have never forgotten".

Did Biden call African Americans "superpredators"?

According to CNN reports, when Biden was serving as the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1993, he made a few comments before the Senate's version of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act was passed as a bill. CNN's KFile reportedly came across Biden's 1993 speech while reviewing his records. It stated that former President Bill Clinton in 1994 signed the crime bill into law to curb crime rates in the US in the early 1990s.

Commenting on the above bill, Biden had reportedly said, "We have predators on our streets that society has in fact, in part because of its neglect, created." He further noted, "They are beyond the pale many of those people, beyond the pale. And it's a sad commentary on society. We have no choice but to take them out of society."

Even though there are no reports to prove the usage of the terms "superpredators" by Biden, a significant number of reports have asserted that those words were used by then-first lady Hilary Clinton in 1996, when she allegedly said "kids that are called superpredators. No conscience. No empathy." When confronted by Black Lives Matter activists during the Democratic primary in 2016, Clinton reportedly told Washington Post, "Looking back, I shouldn't have used those words, and I wouldn't use them today."

Soon after Trump accused Biden of calling African Americans "predators" on stage during their first presidential debate, people took to Twitter to slam POTUS for falsely accusing the former vice president, while many noted that the terms were used by Clinton.

One tweeted, "Bruh, HILLARY called black people super predators, not Biden. Is he just allowed to lie like that??? He really just says whatever. " Another added, "By the way, Biden didn’t call anyone “Super predators”. That was Hillary Clinton. You have the gall to talk about Biden’s mental faculties??? This proves that yours should be in question." Another wrote, "@TruthsOverTrump OMG. the man child trump is sickening he has to shout & lie & accuse because he cant debate like an adult. BTW. Biden didn’t say ‘super predators’. Hillary did. Trump is disgusting"
