Dressed for success: First Lady Melania Trump reportedly spent more than $250,000 on her wardrobe in 2019

With her wardrobe grabbing more attention than her endeavors, the first lady had recently expressed her frustration over people focusing more on what she wears.
UPDATED DEC 13, 2019

Ever since President Donald Trump took office in 2017, First Lady Melania Trump's luxurious designer clothes have often made the news, sometimes even stirring controversy.

With her wardrobe grabbing more attention than her endeavors, the first lady had recently expressed her frustration over people focusing more on what she wears than what she does. However, with a wardrobe like hers, it is difficult to not talk about the FLOTUS' fashion choices.

The latest reports state that the first lady, in an effort to keep with her clothing statements, shells a significant amount of money, with an estimated $255,000 on her clothing alone this year. Melania, who has favored brands like Michael Kors, Chanel and Gucci, reportedly spent over $21,000 on her wardrobe in February, according to the Express

The first lady, on her birthday month, was photographed wearing an expensive piece, her lilac Valentino coat priced at approximately $2,200. She traveled to Japan a month later for a state dinner, where she was photographed in a Calvin Klein dress, a Lora Piana jumpsuit and more.

Melania also traveled to the United Kingdom earlier this month with President Trump for the NATO summit, where the first lady stunned in her yellow Valentino cape coat, roughly costing $6,000.

If you are wondering whether the first lady's extravagant spending comes from the taxpayers, there is not much to worry about. According to her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, the first lady purchases her clothes with her own money, The Hollywood Reporter stated. However, she also qualifies for discounts from certain brands due to her role as the first lady as the pieces she wears often result in huge spikes in demand. First ladies are also historically allowed to accept designer clothing as gifts if they follow the protocol.

Reports state that Hervé Pierre, the French designer who worked with her to co-design her inauguration gown, acts as the first lady's stylist and shops anonymously for her at places like Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Michael Kors and Dior, according to W.
