'Filthy Rich' Episode 9 Preview: Eugene's plane crash was set up by Paul, will Margaret find out he is alive?

While the show is a soapy dramedy, we can't say for sure we won't find out most secrets, but we also can't help but wonder if Eugene goes back home

Spoilers for 'Filthy Rich'

In Episode 8 'James 4:1', we saw reporter Luke Taylor (Cranston Johnson) die, but not before he told a very much alive Eugene Monreaux (Gerald McRaney) that the plane crash that almost killed him was set up by his son's brother-in-law and proud 1820 member, Reverend Paul Luke Thomas (Aaron Lazar). Eugene had printed out the evidence for Luke from his shell companies that proved the 1820 were using the missions as banks - "the missions are the key," he had said for the gang's criminal activities.

"I treated my life like a balance sheet. Sins on one side, good works on the other. Never could make them add up though,” says Eugene. He also admitted to knowing all that the 1820 had sent Hagamond Sheen (Thomas Francis Murphy) to attack Tina Sweet (Rachel York) and Yopi Candalaria (Alanna Ubach). He had said he had never told the cops because he enjoyed being rich. Now, all that is wonderful but Paul takes a wack at manipulation when it comes to Luke.

Paul hands over ledgers to Luke that prove the Monreaux's family corruption, and even promises more evidence. But when Luke gets back to home to Eugene, he tells him that Paul had paid the pilot that was flying Eugene that fateful day to crash the plane. According to Luke the pilot was unwell and was going to die anyway. Eugene had believed that his plane crash was an accident, and his family, who still think he is dead, also thought the same thing. Now, in the next episode, the one before the finale titled 'Romans 12:21', the synopsis reads that Margaret Monreaux (Kim Cattrall) makes a "huge discovery" about the crash and the history of her family.

While the show is a soapy dramedy, we can't say for sure we won't find out most secrets, but we also can't help but wonder if Eugene goes back home. Luke was killed at the end of Episode 8, and now the story that he was going to write that would expose the corruption of the 1820 would not be written. If Eugene wants to protect his family, especially his son Eric Monreaux (Corey Cott) and wife Margaret who have been set up by Paul to take the fall for all of the 1820's illegal activities, he has to come clean about his wrongdoings himself. Since Luke and the audience are the only ones that know Eugene is actually alive, the "huge discovery" could be that Margaret finds out that the plane crash was set up and that she isn't a widow. Not to mention, we've been seeing flashbacks of Margaret and Franklin Lee (Steve Harris), so that could play a huge role in this episode. Episode 8 saw Frankling beating up by Eugene and his friends while he was waiting for Margaret to have a picnic. We don't know how young you have to be part of the 1820 -- but it makes us wonder how long this has been going on for?

The official synopsis of Episode 9 'Romans 12:21' reads, "The entire Monreaux family must use every resource at their disposal in the hunt for Antonio's missing son Jesus; Jason finally comes clean about all of his deceptions; Margaret makes a huge discovery about the plane crash and her family's history."

Episode 9 airs on Monday, November 23, at 9 pm ET on FOX.
