The Argentine police are looking at the death of a young hip-hop artist which is deemed to be suspicious. Paula Monica Gimenez, 21, was found dead inside her home with a cable around her neck. Gimenez, who is known as 'Gemma' or 'Chiny', was found hanging inside her home on Christmas Day in the city of Posadas, Misiones. Gimenez's death was initially considered to be a suicide but is now being treated as suspicious.

New evidence against her former boyfriend has now changed the course of the investigation. Gimenez was celebrating the Christmas season with her family and friends in a massive house across the street before she chose to return home. The rapper was accompanied by her ex-boyfriend Franco, 21, who had allegedly stayed at the residence for around 20 minutes before leaving. According to Franco, the rapper had then threatened to hurt herself if he did not return and claimed that she had sent him images of a noose and a knife.

InfoBae reported that after calling his friend, who has been identified as Rodrigo, to go and check on her, she was found dead with a cable tied around her neck. Police then questioned all those who had attended the festive gathering.

Gimenez's ex Franco was held by the Misiones police for questioning but was released hours later. Local reports state that Franco had explained that he and Gimenez had not been in any relationship for six months and she would constantly threaten to harm herself if he did not return to her. The rapper also has a daughter aged between 6 and 7 whom she had from a previous relationship. While the circumstances led to the police initially ruling her death as a suicide, her cryptic social media posts, which have been uploaded on December 15, pointed otherwise.

In the posts, she stated that she "feared for her life" and felt "under threat". The posts had been shared around two weeks before her death and included messages stating she "wanted to be known for music and not for something bad happening to her". Some of Gimenez's neighbors had revealed that Gimenez and Franco had a very toxic relationship that was also "violent".

A screenshot of WhatsApp messages shows Gimenez begging an unidentified male for help where she suggested her father had insisted she take out a restraining order against Franco, local media states. The messages read, "Sir, Franco was at my house recently. He jumped over the gate and banged on my door like a madman."

"My dad wants me to put a restraining order on him but I don't want to do that. But I'm going to ask you to please talk to him. My daughter wasn't there today, but if he does that again and my baby is there, I'm going to have to report him. Please I ask you, I don't want any more problems," the message read.

At the time of her death, Gimenez's daughter was with her father.
