Finally! 'Fauda', which had two successful seasons pitting an Israeli Defence Forces unit against Hamas operatives, will soon release its third season on Netflix. The Israeli TV series has gained an international audience and received critical acclaim worldwide despite the fact that its dialogue is mostly in Arabic and Hebrew.

Developed by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, the show draws on their experiences in the Israel Defense Forces. The show's name means “chaos” in Arabic, and can be called a political spy thriller since it focusses on a team of Arabic-speaking Israeli infiltrators (mista’aravim) posing as Arabic-speaking Palestinian civilians as they hunt for identified "terrorists". The series itself delves into the reality of going deep undercover and the gray morality of its chief protagonist, Doron.

Release Date

Season 3 'Fauda' is set to premiere on Netflix on April 16, 2020, with the streaming platform dropping all 13 episodes together.

Plot

'Fauda' follows a top Israeli agent, Doron, who comes out of retirement to capture a Hamas terrorist known as "The Panther", who he thought he'd already killed. This formed the crux of the narrative in season 1. Season 2 saw Doron confront ISIS operative Nidal Awdalla after he returns from Syria. Nidal's chief objective is to promote ISIS interests in the Palestinian territories and to avenge the death of his father, Sheikh Awdallah, who Doron had killed in season 1.

While the first two seasons were primarily located in the West Bank, the action will shift to the Gaza strip for the third season. Co-creator Avi Issacharoff talked about how great it was to portray the worldview of an undercover soldier and the son of a terrorist, side-by-side.

“Drama allows you to give something that journalism is less able to do,” he said.
