A father is being applauded on social media for calling out his teenage son after he vandalized a bus stop, in an attempt to teach him a lesson.

The model dad, 51-year-old Arthur Ord, said that he was "so embarrassed and ashamed" when he found out that his 13-year-old boy Lucas had been one of the boys who had been involved in the vandalism.

Identifying him as one from the group of kids, he said, "I have not brought him up this way and I do apologize for his behavior".

In a Facebook post, the single dad from Seaham, Durham, said, "He’s had a couple of little scrapes recently and I need to do something to slow him down before it is too late. I won't allow him to run away and hide from what he's done, not on my watch."

The father also said that his son "wouldn't be seen out in a long time" and that he would "await the police and accept his guilt".

According to a statement by the Durham Constabulary spokesperson, a 13-year-old boy was interviewed by police officers and said that he had taken responsibility for his actions.

"He will be referred to the Youth Offending Service," they said. Ord also said that he is worried about young Lucas and that it is important for him to learn about the consequences of his actions.

"He is at a very impressionable age, and I worry unless he gets a hard lesson, what will happen?," the father said recalling his own upbringing.

"When I was young, you went over the knee and got a proper arse-slapping, but now you have to find another way as (parents') hands are tied by the law in so many ways," he wrote, apologizing profusely for his son's "actions".

The father's post was met with a lot of positivity from other parents. They said that they appreciated his approach to parenting the young child and said that they had respect for him.

A parent on the group consoled him by saying that he had nothing to be ashamed of and that he could "hold his head high". The parent added, "It is the parents that cover for their kids that should be ashamed."
