Update: Drake has confirmed that he indeed was arrested in Sweden after speculations about his arrest were denied by his PR team. On Sunday, July 17, he posted a photo of a document Swedish authorities gave him that confirmed all the mass speculation.

The photo dump from the singer included a series of photos and video documenting his trip that included plenty of partying at a nightclub.

The document notes that Drake can 'receive the aid of a defense attorney who under certain conditions can be paid for by the state' and that he can 'receive the assistance of an interpreter during interrogation if necessary'. It also said he has the right to demand that his own country's consulate or equivalent institutions be notified of your detainment.

The rumor was that Drake was arrested on marijuana related charges while partying at a Swedish club this past week. However, no mention has been made on that front.

Hashtag ‘#FreeDrake’ trended on top after rumors of the Toronto icon getting arrested in Sweden set Instagram and Twitter ablaze. Rumors on social media spread like wildfire that the Grammy-winning rap star, who landed in Sweden on Wednesday, July 13, was reportedly arrested by the authorities over marijuana possession.

Speaking of rappers getting arrested, hip-hop artist Paper Lovee was arrested by Atlanta Police for his alleged involvement in a shooting at a convenience store. Other hip-hop artists such as Polo G, Bandman Kevo, and 9lokkNine too made it to the news for being arrested. Social media users, instead of sympathizing with the SpotemGottem, trolled him over his mugshot picture that showed the 20-year-old rap artist with heavy dreadlocks.

Was Drake arrested in Sweden? Here's the truth

Several outlets on Instagram and Twitter reported that Drake might have been arrested in Sweden. However, a few journalists confirmed that there was no truth to the rumors. The Hollywood Reporter further confirmed the news as Drake’s team categorically told the publication that the ‘One Dance’ hitmaker was in his hotel in the Swedish capital. A senior journalist from The Daily Beast tweeted, “I have just spoken to Swedish police regarding rumors Drake has been arrested in Stockholm. Cops will not confirm if there was an incident with the rapper, but, they confirm, Drake IS NOT in custody.”

Drake was severely trolled for getting arrested despite the news of him being not in custody surfaced quickly on the Internet. It is not clear if Drake is in Sweden to record new music or for personal reasons. The award-winning rapper is yet to comment on his arrest rumors.

The 35-year-old hip-hop legend released his seventh studio album called ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ in June 2022. For the unversed, A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was arrested in July 2019 for a month in Sweden after he got involved in a brawl prior to his appearance at a Stockholm music festival.
