Ex Smashing Pumpkins bassist D'arcy shares texts to show frontman Billy Corgan was lying

After a war of words between frontman Billy Corgan and ex-bassist D'arcy Wretzky, the latter has now made their text messages public to prove that the band undermined her and lied about it.

The Smashing Pumpkins reunion is off to a hilariously predictable start as two of the band’s founding members, frontman Billy Corgan and bassist D’arcy Wretzky, are engaged in a war of words over the latter’s role (or lack thereof).

On Monday night, Smashing Pumpkins put out an official statement in the hopes of clarifying what went down between frontman Corgan and original guitarist and drummer James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlain who plan on reuniting together for an album and tour, and the band’s former bassist D’Arcy Wretzky who was left on the sidelines.

“Despite reports, Ms. Wretzky has repeatedly been invited out to play with the group, participate in demo sessions, or at the very least, meet face-to-face,” the band said. “In each and every instance she always deferred.” But Wretzky is not apparently not going to take that accusation without fighting back in full view of the public on social media.

On Tuesday, via Alternative Nation, Wretzky has shared screenshots of her text message conversations with Corgan as proof that the band’s statement was false, claiming that she very much wanted to be a part of the reunion, and did not, as the singer suggested, defer in each and every instance. In a corresponding Facebook post that is no longer available, Wretzky wrote that the messages “were posted as proof to the many people who said that I was lying about ever being offered the job. (In fact, Billy is saying that now as well).”

“If one takes the time to read it carefully, one will notice that as the conversation continues, the roll i’m offered becomes ever smaller,” she added. “Finally Billy says that what I deserve is a T-shirt w/my face on it. I spoke with him and asked him if there was any possible way that i’d be able to play bass on the tour and he said no.”

At this point, Corgan seems to change his approach and begins to tamper down Wretzky’s expectations.

At this point, Corgan reportedly informs her that Jack Bates, the son of New Order’s Peter Hook, will serve as the band’s touring bassist.
