North Dakota ex-pastor, 83, who does gay porn believes sex brings you 'closer to God'
An 83-year-old North Dakota pastor who quit his job five years ago to become a porn star now claims that sex can actually help people get closer to God. Norm Self, a former priest, believes that sex should be considered a joyful element of spiritual life and finds doing it with strangers on camera “delightful.”
Self spent most of his life in the church serving God. He had previously been married to a woman for nearly 30 years before realizing he was gay. He had to wait another 20 years before coming out publicly and expressing his sexuality through adult films. According to a 2019 Channel 5 documentary titled 'OAPS On The Game: The Sex Business,' Self made his porn debut in 2017.

Self said in that documentary, “My housemate asked me if I’d be in a film. I was invited in and all of a sudden all this attention comes to me,” he added, “It’s almost like having a party, that’s one of the things I admire about this way of doing porn.” He believes that sex should be “freeing.” “We are going to have sex anyway so why not make it a liberating and bonding experience instead of hiding it away in the shadows?" he said. It's worth noting that Self has been making porno films free of charge.
He told the Huffington Post in a prior interview that the experience had been "delightful." He told the site, “I find these days that my body is indeed a temple where intimacy and ecstasy intermingle.” Self has stated that he intends to continue acting in pornographic films until society eliminates "sex-negative norms" from its vocabulary. He wants to replace the negative messages with one that says individuals have the right to have "erotic joy."
In the Huffington Post interview, he remarked, “We who have experienced that owe it to our sisters and brothers to share that good news with all who will hear it!” However, Self does have one quibble with his new line of work - he doesn't care for the term "porn." Nevertheless, he rejoices in being allowed to live outside of a repressive society where “everything outside conventional norms…is labeled ‘porn,’” and he is content with the designation of a porn star.
