'Euphoria' Special Part 1 Preview: Will Rue and Jules reunite in New York apartment or is it another fantasy?

In a first look picture, Jules and Rue are staring at each other after they have just woken up together, a hint of a smile on both their lips. It could be Rue's fantasy but two things make it certain that their moment in bed is very real

In the first look pictures of 'Euphoria' two-part special, the most exciting one is the one with Zendaya's Rue and Hunter Schafer's Jules lounging in what seems like a cluttered and messy New York apartment with bricked walls and artsy decorations. We know what you are thinking -- maybe this is just another one of Rue's fantasy scenarios and she is dreaming of what her life would look like if she ran away with Jules.

The setting supports this 'fantasy' speculation, with both of them staring at each other after they have just woken up together, a hint of a smile on both their lips. After that disastrous parting how could they be so cozy and how can Rue get over being abandoned -- something she believes people always do? But two things make it certain that their moment in bed is very 'real'. Yup, we can definitely expect Rue to go after Jules and probably spend the holidays with her in New York. One, HBO has confirmed that Hunter Schafer will also appear in the episode with Zendaya and Colman Domingo (who plays Rue's mentor from Narcotics Anonymous).

Two, there are the first look pictures themselves. In the 'in bed together' photograph, both Rue and Jules sport casual bun hairstyles and a no make-up look. There is none of 'Euphoria's signature glitter reserved for fantasy or party sequences -- it is just too real to be a figment of Rue's imagination. Two, there is a second picture of Rue, in the same hairstyle and bare-face look, assuming the position so many New Yorkers starved of open spaces are familiar with -- sitting on the window ledge of their cramped apartments.

Sans Jules in this picture, Rue looks a little pensive as she observes something off-frame. We even see a sewing dress form in the background, which probably belongs to one of Jules' friends in New York in whose apartment she is crashing at the moment.

While it will be great to see Rue reunite with Jules, can she really leave her mother and sister behind to lead a boho life with Jules in the city? Can she really afford to after her relapse since she needs stability and routine right now?

All this will already be things she will have hashed out with Ali, her NA mentor, at the diner. Till now Ali is the only adult who allows Rue to be Rue, encouraging her to be honest and sincere and doesn't fall for her bullshit nor does he encourage it. So he would have figured out that Rue's relapse is intrinsically linked to her feelings of self-worth plummeting after Jules abandoned her at the train station. He might even encourage Rue to go meet Jules in NY to hash things out. But the question is after their reunion, will Rue realize that while Jules needs to be in New York, she needs to be back home?

Tune in to the early late-night premiere of a new special episode of HBO’s 'Euphoria' on Thursday, December 3, at 9 pm PT and December 4 at 12 midnight ET.
