'Boyz n the Hood' and 'The Birth of a Nation' star Esther Scott dies after heart attack aged 66
Actor Esther Scott, who is popularly known for her work in Nate Parker’s 'The Birth of a Nation' and late John Singleton’s 'Boyz n the Hood' died after suffering from a heart attack. The incident occurred on February 14 in Los Angeles according to a report in Deadline.
Scott has also been a part of many TV series which includes CBS’ 'The Help', Fox’s 'Melrose Place', ABC’s 'The Geena Davis Show', 'Sister, Sister' and finally The CW's 'Hart of Dixie' in which she played the role of Delma. Scott's first-ever role happened to her in the mid-1980s when she voiced a character for the animated series 'Ewoks' of the 'Star Wars' franchise.
She also has a varied filmography which includes movies such as 'The Pursuit of Happyness', 'Dreamgirls', 'Fun with Dick and Jane', 'Austin Powers in Goldmember', 'The Craft', 'Don Juan DeMarco' and 'Transformers'. Her role in 'Boyz n the Hood' saw Scott play a grandmother who catches Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character, Tre, fooling around with her granddaughter. She rushes up the stairs with the meat cleaver, ready to attack, but Tre manages to escape by jumping out of the window.
Scott was also a part of stage plays and as quoted by Deadline, she appeared in 2001’s 'Jump at the Sun' according to LA Theatre Works. East Wek Players, Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Fountain Theatre are some of the other theater production companies that Scott worked for when she was active.
