Eric Trump, President Donald Trump’s second son from his first wife Ivana, had a boomerang experience on Thursday, July 2, after he targeted the Clinton family by linking them with the tainted Ghislaine Maxwell, who was arrested the same day. 36-year-old Eric, who often backs his father on the social media platform, quietly deleted his tweet on the Clintons and Maxwell after the Internet came up with a counter to link the president with the same woman and trolled him back.

It so happened that Eric posted a tweet that included a photo of Maxwell attending the wedding of Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, in 2010 and heading the tweet as “birds of a feather...”. He apparently tried to smear the Clintons and with them, the Democratic Party, by showing their ties to the late billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged ‘madam’ who was arrested and charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The photo showed Maxwell, 58, standing among the guests as Bill walked his daughter down the aisle.

Eric’s ploy couldn’t meet its desired result as Twitter soon blew up in his face. The users soon turned up with photos showing Trump with Epstein or Maxwell or both together along with his current wife Melania. They captioned it “Flock together” to complete the popular proverb which was mentioned by Eric. The picture is believed to be from the early 2000s.

MSNBC’s senior producer Kyle Griffin replied to Eric’s now-deleted tweet asking: “Does the president's son not know that there are photos of Donald Trump with Maxwell?” Another user targeted the businessman, saying: “You really are the dumb one, aren't you?”

“Are you sure you wanna go down this road?” another user mocked the president’s son. Eric, who recently backed his famous father after he called himself a “lone warrior” on Twitter and regularly takes on presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, didn’t respond to any of the counterattacks.

Maxwell, a British socialite, was arrested in Bradford, New Hampshire, after she remained away from public eyes following Epstein’s arrest last year. She has been accused of assisting Epstein, a convicted pedophile, in his abuse of minors by helping in recruiting and grooming victims. She had earlier denied any involvement in the case. She was brought to the court after her arrest and remanded in custody for transfer to New York. Epstein passed away in prison on August 10 as he awaited his trial on sex trafficking charges.

If convicted, Maxwell could face life imprisonment on the most serious charge - carrying a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity - which carries a minimum sentence of 10 years.

In January, The New York Post and The Sun, UK, published pictures of Clinton on Epstein’s private jet named the “Lolita Express” along with Maxwell. Also in May, Netflix’s four-part docuseries ‘Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich’ showed an interview of a longtime tech worker on the Caribbean island who claimed he once cited Clinton at Epstein’s villa residence. The former president though has denied it.
