'Equal': K-pop idol Wonho to make musical debut, fans say 'booked and busy'

The musical also stars other K-pop idols like Golden Child’s Joochan, Vromance’s Hyunseok, Victon’s Seungsik and Sejun

It seems that Wonho is quite booked and busy these days as after just seeing him MC a show with (G)I-DLE as guests, fans are going to see him in person. The K-pop idol has been roped in to play one of the main leads in the musical ‘Equal’. The play is set in 17th century Europe when the continent was rife with witch hunts and the plague, following the friendship of Theo, a doctor and Nikola, a patient with an incurable illness. This is the third edition of the musical with the previous version completing its run in February.

On April 21, it was announced that ‘Equal’ was getting a new cast along with some of the familiar faces returning like Golden Child’s Joochan. The new cast includes K-pop idols like Wonho, Vromance’s Hyunseok, Victon’s Seungsik and Sejun. Both Wonho and Hyunseok are making their debut and are to play the role of Theo. Sejun, Joochan and musical actor Shin Hyuk have been cast as Nikola.

Wonho cast in ‘Equal’

‘Equal’ follows the friendship of Nikola, an emotional man with a fear of death and his childhood friend Theo, who is now a doctor and his only hope for salvation. As Theo finds a mysterious Alchemy book to look for Nikola’s cure, things start to take a deadly turn. In the second run, Theo had been played by 2PM’s Jun.K and former NU’EST member Baekho. 

With Baekho being a friend of Wonho, the latter had gone to see the musical twice and so fans are excited for Wonho to take up Baekho’s mantle. The third edition of ‘Equal’ will have its opening night on June 3 till July 24 at Global Platform Meta Theater and Seoul Uniplex 1 Building. It will also be live-streamed online for international fans. 

‘When you’re an ace’

Excited fans trended Wonho as they made tweets like, “Oh my god wonho will be in a musical and play the role of a doctor who tries to save his friend.” Another Wenee realized why he went to see the play multiple times, “No wonder he was so determined to understand the story.” One joked, “WONHO PULLING A WILL SMITH ON HONG NICOLA??? SEUNGSIK AS THEO??? JOOCHAN I HOPE YOU'RE OKAY DEAR.”

Another fan made a reaction meme, “The one and only.” One Wenee shared, “Wonho as Special MC Wonho in a variety show Wonho in a musical Wonho new album BOOKED AND BUSY !!!!!!!!📢📢📢 WENEES WE HAVE EXCITING TIMES AHEAD OF US !!!!!” Another flexed, “Wonho managed to get casted as the lead? that's literally his FIRST experience in a musical BSSHAHSGS see when ur an ace.”
