The Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Series Or Movie has gone to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for his role as Carl Abar/Doctor Manhattan on 'Watchmen,' a live-action series that serves as a sequel to the classic 'Watchmen' graphic novel. Carl Abar is the husband of Angela Abar (Regina King) who is revealed to be the nearly godlike Doctor Manhatten in disguise. This is the actor's first Emmy nomination and win. Abdul-Mateen accepted the award and thanked his parents, the cast and crew of 'Watchmen,' and said the show was about "white domestic abuse" while still offering hope.

The odds were tilted heavily in favor of 'Watchmen' while other nominees include Jim Parsons, Dylan McDermott, Titus Burgess, Jovan Adepo and Louis Gossett Jr. Jim Parsons was nominated for his role as Henry Willson on 'Hollywood,' a miniseries about the Golden Age of Hollywood in which Parsons plays a ruthless gay film agent who exploits actors for sexual favors. Parsons has won several nominations and awards for his comedic role as Sheldon Cooper on 'The Big Bang' theory.

Dylan McDermott was nominated for his role as Ernie on 'Hollywood.' Ernie is a pimp with a heart of gold who runs a gas service and whose main dream is of one day being a Hollywood actor. He is best known for his role as Bobby Donnell on the American law drama 'The Practice,' for which he's earned a variety of nominations.

Titus Burgess was nominated for his role as Titus Andromedon on 'The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.' Titus Andromedon is Kimmy's flamboyantly gay roommate and an aspiring actor and singer. All of Burgess' previous TV nominations are for this role, for which he's a Webby Award for Best Actor in 2015, and a Gold Derby TV Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy in the same year.

Jovan Adepo was nominated for his role as Officer Will Reeves/Hooded Justice on 'Watchmen.' Will Reeves was featured in a flashback episode that revealed one of the comic book's most enduring mysteries: the true identity of Hooded Justice on one of the most memorable episodes of the series.

Louis Gossett Jr was nominated for his role as William Reeves on 'Watchmen', the older version of Will Reeves, who is revealed to be Angela Abar's grandfather and who has a mysterious connection to the conspiracy running through the show.
