Elton John announces iHeart Living Room Concert, fans praise him for doing his part 'for a great cause'
Sir Elton John is hosting a benefit concert on March 29: 'Fox Presents The iHeart Living Room Concert for America'. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, many live concerts, programs and award shows, including the iHeartRadio Music Awards and Academy of Country Music Awards, have been forced to postpone until later this year and Elton John's hour-long show comes in an effort to help those affected by COVID-19.
The benefit special, apart from entertaining the country with today's top musical acts, aims to support those going under the radar during the pandemic as a tribute to all the frontline workers keeping the US healthy, safe and well-fed. The concert is also raising money for Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation. Just like the show's name implies, John will be holding the concert from his living room, while other celebrated artists Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw and Alicia Keys will do the same from their homes, in an effort to encourage social distancing. The iHeart Living Room Concert for America," presented by Fox, is set to air tonight at 9 pm ET.
Twitter users have responded to Elton John's Twitter announcement of the concert with much appreciation and love. Apart from a stream of thank-you comments, many fans said they "love" the show and "love" John. Although several were in full support of the show, fans wanted to see John perform on the piano. One fan said, "Somebody get Elton a Piano NOW!!!!!! (sic)" while another replied, "HELL YEAH!!!!! Thank God his son let him use his keyboard. Elton you are the BEST!!!! (sic)" Another fan said, "Sir Elton without a (piano emoji) Noooo, thank you all, how inspiring."
Fans were happy that, amid many shows going digital during the pandemic, 'Fox Presents The iHeart Living Room Concert for America' was going to a good cause. "Tuned in and happy as can be that Elton is hosting! What a great cause!", says a fan. One fan said, "Thank you, Elton, and all of the amazing performers for doing more than your part to help raise spirits and raise $ for important causes. My wife and I are donations too". A user also took the moment to thank first-reponders and helpers, saying, "Thank you for supporting the medical personnel on the front lines trying to keep everyone safe. They are putting their own health at risk and distancing themselves from their own families to treat those affected with COVID-19. If they’re not heroes I don’t know who is (sic)".
