Ellen Pompeo's dream plot for 'Grey's Anatomy' finale and what fans have in mind

On 'The Late Late Show with James Corden', Ellen Pompeo said she had a master plot for the finale and thanked the loyal audience

'Grey's Anatomy' has been running for forever now. With the series in its sixteenth season, fans often wonder how the series will wrap up and what will be in store for the characters at the end. On 'The Late Late Show with James Corden', Ellen Pompeo revealed she has a master plot for the finale and every hard-core fan will be happy to hear it.

The actress, whose character Meredith Grey went through a jumbo twist after she was fired from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, made an appearance on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' and confessed, "I'd love to have some of the old cast come back. But that probably won't happen. But that would be the most amazing way to end." She shrugged, "Some of them were killed on the show."

Moreover, she said that it has been incredibly fun to be a part of the show for 16 long years and have a "loyal, amazing, fantastic audience." Adding a sprinkle of fun element to the show, James Corden shed light on his long desire to act on a medical drama show, gave the audience a little preview of the magic they can expect. The show has already been renewed for Season 17 and that might be the last one. Hence, Pompeo is mentally preparing herself for the finale. "The ending, the final episode, matters so much," she said. "And the fans are never going to be happy no matter what. 'Sopranos', 'Game of Thrones', they’re pissed no matter what you do. So, there’s a lot of pressure on that final episode." Well, it's true, isn't it?

Fans, however, have more ideas on how the series should end. In a Reddit thread, one fan said, "With a time jump. It's such a common thing for long-running shows. It takes the pressure off of trying to evenly end 12 people's stories in one season." Another one posted, "I think it ends with Mer being diagnosed with Alzheimer's and we see a grown-up version of Zola or one of the other kids finding her journals, which are her voice-overs that she does every episode."

Another fan teased a new spin-off named 'Zola's Anatomy' and wrote, "I think it ends with Mer being diagnosed with Alzheimer's and we see a grown-up version of Zola or one of the other kids finding her journals, which are her voice-overs that she does every episode."

"I'm going with: 'Grey's Anatomy' ends with a season-long funeral of Meredith and each episode has Mer's voice over. Each show of the season starts with seeing a character at Mer's funeral and that show will be dedicated to that character starting with when Mer met them to a flash-forward of their finding out about her passing (giving us an idea of their current lives) and then back to various scenes through the years, concluding with the last interaction they had with her," one fan wrote.

However, one fan was in sync with Pompeo's idea and chalked out a detailed description too. "I would like every character to make a return. So I’m thinking, April Kepner comes back to the hospital to visit old friends. But, trauma comes in and they need her to stay. This trauma is so bad that every Grey Sloan doctor must work together to come up with a plan to save this guy's life. This guy will actually be a girl and be pregnant so they have to call Arizona Robbins to help with the baby. Callie Torres returns to help Link with her broken bones, Izzie comes back as a general surgeon and helps Bailey and Webber with her liver. Next, Amelia is worried about his brain so she and Stephanie Edwards (now an attending) come together to get a CT that finds a brain bleed. Amelia operates."

"During brain surgery, the patient has an issue with his heart making Maggie, Cristina and Teddy work together to solve the issue. Finally, Jackson Avery comes in to help with the patient's burns. This brings all of the doctors together one last time and helps them all become friends again. Also, I forgot that Alex would work with Arizona on the baby! In the end, I think they find out that Meredith Grey, who was supposedly spending time with her kids becomes the woman on the table. Pregnant because Derek saved his (you know what). I think that the surgeons succeed in saving Meredith! This seems like an exhilarating way to end of the show, and gives a bunch of our faves to come back!"

Do you have a unique idea for the finale too? The medical drama airs every Thursday on ABC in the US and airs on Sky Witness and NOW TV in the UK.
