Empire is one of the most popular shows on TV right now, and a large part of it is thanks to the fierce Cookie Lyon, played by the incomparable Taraji P Henson. This is why, despite starting off as a story centered on Terrence Howard's Lucious Lyon, Empire soon became a through and through Cookie show.

Now, we get to see a lot more of her and understand what makes Cookie, Cookie. A part of that is learning about her past and the people in her life. The newest character we will get to meet on the show is her mom Renee, who is going to be portrayed by the talented and legendary Alfre Woodard.

Fox has announced that she has landed a guest star on the fourth season of the show, and we can't wait to see her chemistry with Taraji. This would be a reunion of sorts for the talented actress, who co-starred in Tyler Perry’s 2008 film The Family That Preys. The actresses sure seem to be excited about it, even taking a selfie together to mark the event.

Alfre would be a good addition as one of the many badass moms of the show, including Lucious' mama Leah Walker, played by Leslie Uggams and councilman Angelo's (Taye Diggs) mother Diana DuBois, played by Phylicia Rashad. It does seem like Alfre's Renee will amp up the drama quotient of the show by a few bars, considering a press release predicts that the mother-daughter duo will have a “turbulent reunion."

TV Line, meanwhile, has described her as the "estranged (and extremely formidable, natch) mother of Taraji P Henson’s leading lady." Her return also could also lead to the comeback of Vivica A. Fox and Tasha Smith on Empire, who played Cookie's sisters Candace and Carol respectively.

We also have the epic showdown between Cookie and an axe-wielding Claudia (Demi Moore) — who is holding Luscious captive — to look forward to in the second half of season 4. So, we're assuming you will be watching Empire, like the rest of America, to catch Renee in action on March 28 at 8/7c, when the Fox show will return after the production hiatus since last fall.
