CUMBRIA, ENGLAND: A court has been told that the lies of a woman almost ended the lives of three men. A few years back, Eleanor William went viral for her rape claims in Facebook posts, alleging that she was trafficked and sexually exploited by a group of Asian men running a grooming gang.

The young woman accused the men of giving her drugs before they allegedly stripped her "naked, beaten me and dumped me in the middle of nowhere,” BBC had reported at the time. The 22-year-old woman had also shared photos of her injuries on social media, which were later found to be self-inflicted by a hammer, to support her baseless accusations. Williams from Barrow-in-Furness was sentenced to eight and a half years after being found guilty of lying about being raped and trafficked on March 14. One of the men accused of sexual assault by Williams was Mohammed Ramzan, who spoke in court and said as reported by The Mirror, “I still bear the scars to this day.”

‘I have had countless death threats’

Ramzan, who is a business owner, said, “I have had countless death threats made over social media from people all over the world because of what they thought I was involved in.” Another man victimized by the young woman was Jordan Trengove, whose house was spray-painted with the word “rapist”.

Trengove also had to spend time in a prison cell for 73 days with a sex offender. But things took a turn for the worse in 2020. Trengove revealed, “Things had calmed down a bit until the Facebook post in 2020. This made things even worse for me. There were big protests and marches in Barrow. The lowest point was when I tried to end my life in August 2020.” He added, “Once something's said in Barrow, because it's such a small town, that's it, it's stuck with you for the rest of your life.”

As per reports, Oliver Gardner also became the target of Williams. He even had to get hospitalized under the Mental Health Act. “It was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This whole period in my life has been totally overwhelming,” he said while adding that he also attempted to kill himself.

‘She continued to fabricate evidence’

In October last year, prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford KC reportedly said, “Unfortunately, the fact that her lies and false allegations had been exposed by the police in July 2019 did not cause her to stop. Instead, she continued to fabricate evidence to try and make it appear that her false claims of being the victim of trafficking and sexual exploitation were true.”

“The police made inquiries, as they were bound to do, into what Williams had alleged and they established none of it was true. The police established that her injuries had been self-inflicted with a hammer police recovered in fields near to where they had found her on the night she had failed to return home,” Sandiford added.
