Ed Sheeran addresses marriage rumors after he was spotted with a ring on his left hand
Ed Sheeran was spotted with what looked like a wedding ring at his recent performance in London's O2 and the singer finally revealed what the ring means to him.
Fans of Ed Sheeran were first shocked when he announced his engagement to Cherry Seaborn in late 2017. The singer wrote on his Instagram that he got himself a fiancée just before the new year, but didn't reveal much about their wedding. A month and a half later, he was seen with a silver ring on his left hand and everyone wondered if the Perfect singer got married secretly.
Ed didn't respond immediately to all the detectives that sought answers to this bewildering question but spoke about it at the BRIT Awards. The Shape of You singer said the ring was just a nod to his engagement, and he wore it and continues to do so because Cherry made it especially for him.
He told ITV's Dan Wootton, "I never saw why men didn’t wear engagement rings. It’s the same commitment either way. Cherry made it for me herself out of silver clay. I really like it. I haven't told anyone that either" The London native put all rumors to rest by stating, "No. I'm not married."
The 27-year-old's performance of Supermarket Flowers at the War Child BRITs Week in London's O2 arena on Monday, February 19, was upstaged by the silver band that rested on his left hand. The singer's fans speculated that Cherry and Ed may have had a private ceremony since he was spotted wearing it since February 10th.
The possibility of Ed and his childhood sweetheart having a secret wedding was real for many as he's been very secretive about his love life. Ed and Cherry started dating in 2015 after they attended a party at his friend, Taylor Swift's house. However, they've known each other for many years.
The couple first met while they were attending high school in Thomas Mills High in Suffolk, England and lost touch for years after Ed dropped out of school to pursue music. His 25-year-old fiancée, a consultant at Deloitte, went onto study at Duke University in the US and worked there until 2015.
A year later, she moved back to the UK to stay with the Grammy-winning singer. That same year, Ed took a break from music to focus on his relationship. He told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, "But we were just basically like, 'Let’s quit our jobs and have a year of forming a tight bond.' So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together."
