Drew Barrymore starrer 'Santa Clarita Diet' gets a season 3 renewal on Netflix
The suburban biter will be back for a fresh season - Netflix's 'Santa Clarita Diet' is being renewed for a third season. The announcement was made through a quirky tweet, much like the horror comedy show itself, showing how having just season 2 isn't enough.
Season 3 will have the main cast returning - Drew Barrymore as Shelia, Timothy Olyphant as Joel and Liv Hewson as Abby, and Skyler Gisondo as Eric in 2019.
Victor Fresco was the showrunner and executive producer for the first two seasons and he will probably be on for season 3 as well. The two main actors, Drew and Timothy are also part of the producer crew alongside Aaron Kaplan, Tracy Katsky, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell.
The original story follows the couple, who are into real estate and living their boring suburban lives with their two adolescent kids. Their life is as mundane as you can possibly imagine until Sheila finds a new hobby - cannibalism.
Hubby Joel is a supportive chap and wants to make the marriage work - even if it means helping her find the right bite. They murder people together in an attempt to be a "family that slays together stays together". It's full of gross wtf moments as well as some really dark jokes - the whole point of the series is perhaps to be as bizarre as possible and they do it superbly. Imagine dealing with nosy suburban neighbors with human body parts in your house!
The first two seasons had 10 episodes each, so it wouldn't be wrong to guess that the new season would be on similar lines in terms of length. This series was Drew Barrymore's comeback after 2014's 'Blended' and it was quite the comeback - it sort of broke the image that she had from doing too many romantic comedies previously. 'Santa Clarita Diet' also got her back in shape, she had earlier admitted that she lost 20 pounds for the role - all in all, Drew has a come a long way, thanks to this show.
