Karen Derrico has been going through mixed emotions ever since she was informed that Dawsyn Derrico has a hole in her heart. Dawsyn was born prematurely along with her other two siblings. While her siblings are healthy, the doctors informed Deon Derrico and Karen that Dawsyn would need surgery.

In the latest episode that aired on Tuesday, September 1, Dawsyn finally underwent the surgery and came back stronger. While everyone thought that things were going to be better with her coming back home, an unexpected incident got Karen overwhelmed. The doctor had informed Karen that Dawsyn would require a lot of care as she had recently had surgery. He further informed them that Dawsyn would require to take her medications and food via a feeding tube as she was not used to using her muscles in the mouth. The doctor warned them that if anything went wrong, there were chances that Dawsyn's stomach would fall from the abdominal wall and she would need surgery. Hearing this, Karen felt overwhelmed and wondered if she would be able to carry out the duties that are required.

Speaking to the camera, she further revealed that it was hard for her to picture treating Dawsyn differently and not being able to breastfeed her normally. While she knew it was going to be a challenge, Karen thought she had everything under control. However, emotions got the better of her once she reached home and it was time for her to feed Dawsyn using the tube.

Even though Deon and Karen were informed on how to use the tube, she felt confused. To make things worse, Deon felt distant as it seemed like the death of their son, Carter, had taken a toll on him. Karen admitted that the weight was on her shoulder. She decided to rush Dawsyn to the hospital as she did not want to put her life on risk. Luckily, Dawsyn was given the medications on time. After the incident, Karen sat down with the family and admitted it has been hard to think that she cannot handle her baby. Feeling like a failure after taking care of 13 children, Karen revealed it was a hard pill to swallow that she was having difficulty looking after her child.

However, Deon assured her that they were going to get through this. Karen admitted it was important to show her children that it is alright to be vulnerable. She felt happy about having the support of her family and children. Speaking to the camera, Karen stated that she was going to stay positive and be prepared when it was time to bring Dawsyn back home again.

'Doubling Down With The Derricos' airs on Tuesdays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
