'Doubling Down With The Derricos': Darian wants her freedom, fans say she 'shouldn’t be the third parent'

Darian Derrico is having a hard time trying to adjust to the change of not being around children of her own age

Darian Derrico has always stepped up and taken care of her siblings when her parents have struggled to manage things. However, it looks like things are taking a toll on her as she spends more time with her siblings and less with children of her age. In the latest episode that aired on Tuesday, September 8, Darian revealed that she hates to say no to her parents but would want to do activities that are common to children of her age. 

"I love them but it sucks that I can't go out," she said. Darian admitted that she wanted more freedom as she was getting older. She further added that she did not want to do "kid stuff" anymore. While Darian found it hard to open up about this to her parents, she decided to have a conversation with her grandmother GG. Talking to GG, Darian revealed that she had a crush on a guy. While she did not reveal the name, she decided to call him 'bagel' with the hope that her parents would not find out what they were talking about. Darian revealed that she would like to spend more time with her friends and not be around her siblings even though she loved them dearly. 

She further spoke about her crush and revealed that Karen and Deon Derrico do not want them to date him at the moment. However, they would be alright with the two being friends. Darian admitted that she just wanted to be friends with him but did not know what to talk about. 

GG tried to help Darian out and stated she should go and talk to him casually. As the two continued their conversation, Darian sought GG's help and asked if she could talk to Deon and Karen to allow her to spend more time with her friends. GG understood that Darian was at an age where she needed to be with her friends. 

While she managed to start the conversation with Deon and Karen, at first, things did not go as expected. However, after listening to what GG had to say, the two agreed it was important for Darian to spend time with her friends. Viewers also feared that Darian might be put in a spot where she cannot enjoy being a teenager. 

"Poor Darian. she needs friends her age. she did ask for all these siblings, she shouldn’t be the third parent," read one comment. "Here’s my thing with older siblings. Do older siblings have responsibilities? Of course, but helping out w/ younger siblings can’t come before their own needs. Darian is a teen. There has to be a balance b/c Darian doesn’t have 14 kids. This is a lot," another added.

"Darian needs a break from all 13 of y'all," said another viewer. "Darian's friends don't have parents? Field the parents and make sure they make good chaperones or have GG do it," one suggested. 

"Listen Deon... 14 or 15 (like your 14 + Darian’s friend) doesn’t really make a huge difference. Let the girl hang out with at least one friend her age. I’m sure other parents will be ok to come to pick her up and drop her back," said another.

'Doubling Down With The Derricos' airs Tuesdays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
