Trump skips G-20 summit's Covid-19 talks and goes golfing, Internet tells him 'that's why you lost election'

On Saturday, November 21, President Donald Trump participated in the G-20 virtual summit, where he spoke about the administration's coronavirus actions and about efforts to quickly develop a Covid-19 vaccine. However, he left the meeting ahead of the start of a side conference on pandemic response.

The summit was hosted by Saudi Arabia, and the POTUS was among the almost two dozen leaders to speak when it began at 8 pm ET, via video conferencing. Trump participated from the White House Situation Room. But, as reported by CNN, soon after the summit began, Trump began tweeting about the election. The CNN report also states that Trump left the White House by 10 am to visit his golf club outside Washington, DC, while the other world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and South Korean President Moon Jae-in spoke during a side event on "Pandemic Preparedness and Response".

A report in The Hill states that the public schedule from the White House indicates that Trump is set to attend another G-20 session on Sunday, November 22, morning. The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment on Trump’s absence from the coronavirus session on Saturday.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that Trump in his remarks “discussed with other world leaders the need to work together to restore strong economic growth and jobs as we overcome the Covid-19 pandemic”. She, in a statement, said, "During his remarks, President Trump highlighted how the United States marshaled every resource at its disposal to respond to the crisis, as well as the unprecedented economic recovery of the United States on a foundation of tax and regulatory cuts, energy independence, and fair trade deals.” She added, “He spoke about the aggressive actions and safety measures the United States took to protect the vulnerable, pioneer groundbreaking treatments, and develop vaccines and therapies at record-setting speed, which will save millions of lives. President Trump also reaffirmed the importance of the G20 working together for future economic growth and prosperity.”

Some of the tweets which Trump wrote minutes after the Summit began are: In response to a joint statement from Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and Speaker of the Michigan state House Lee Chatfield on their visit to the White House on Friday, November 20, he said, “This is true, but much different than reported by the media. We will show massive and unprecedented fraud!” He also tweeted, “Big voter fraud information coming out concerning Georgia. Stay tuned!”

Later, in another tweet, he said, “The Fake News is not talking about the fact that “Covid” is running wild all over the World, not just in the U.S. I was at the Virtual G-20 meeting early this morning and the biggest subject was Covid. We will be healing fast, especially with our vaccines!”

According to Johns Hopkins, the US confirmed Covid-19 cases have passed 12 million.

Soon Twitterati began talking about the G-20 summit. A user alleged, “This is absolutely appalling! I heard on the news that the G20 had a virtual meeting on tackling the Coronavirus pandemic. tRUMP decided it to skip that meeting and go golfing instead. While...Coronavirus Update 11/21 6:47 pm EST Cases: 12,436,325 Deaths: 261,749.” NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake tweeted, “The President did attend the opening of the virtual G20 this morning... then skipped the side meeting with other world leaders that followed, which was entirely focused on pandemic preparedness and response, and went golfing.”

Another user tweeted, “FAKE PRESIDENT avoids Covid discussion with g-20 to golf! I want all $$$ to protect during golf paid back to USA! He spends OUR money golfing while people are losing healthcare, homes and have no money for food!” A user opined, “If Trump doesn't want to do his job because he lost the election - and now he's golfing all day, we need to get him out of the W/H now.  With G20 meeting concentrating on COVID, the President is TWEETING? COVID doesn't matter to him anyway-why don't we consider the 25th Amendment.” Another said, “You refused to attend the G20 leaders’ side meeting on the pandemic this weekend. That’s pathetic, but unsurprising. You don’t care about Americans. That’s why you lost.  YOU LOST THE ELECTION.”
