Trump retweets meme that says Jesus likes him better than Obama after Christian magazine calls for his removal

In an op-ed piece, editor-in-chief of the magazine, Mark Galli, wrote: "His Twitter feed alone — with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders — is a near-perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused"

On December 27, Donald Trump retweeted a January 2018 tweet featuring a meme that shows a man (who looks like the popular conception of Jesus) carrying luggage, and the statement: "(Obama) kicked me out, (Trump) invited me back)."

Trump added the comment "Thank you!" to the tweet posted nearly two years ago. The ancient social media post from the account of @DaveSchreiber3, said: "There's so much to be thankful for regarding our POTUS Trump!"

"I truly believe this man was heaven sent in order to save and protect the most gracious, benevolent, and in turn, a prosperous country ever. God bless him and his family," the post added.

Opinions might have changed since then as Evangelical magazine 'Christianity Today' has already called for Trump's removal.

In an op-ed piece, editor-in-chief of the magazine, Mark Galli, wrote: "His Twitter feed alone — with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders — is a near-perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused."

He added that "the impeachment hearings have illuminated the president's moral deficiencies for all to see." Addressing evangelical Christians who support Trump "in spite of his blackened moral record," Galli implored them to consider the facts laid bare in front of them.

Ever since 'Christianity Today' posted the polarizing op-ed advocating for the removal of Trump from office, the magazine's subscription has gone up, according to Galli.

He said: "Although we've lost hundreds of subscribers — let's be frank about it — we've gained three times as many subscribers. So I think overall, at least (in) the world we live in, it's been affirmative."

Trump retweeting this meme a week after the op-ed came out might be his attempt to rally support among Conservative Christians, who have divided opinions on Trump's impeachment.

However, social media users hit back at Trump's suggestion that Jesus Christ favored him. One user said: "Is He bringing us your tax returns in that luggage? Straight from heaven to your impeachment trial? Awesome!"

Another replied to the retweet with an all-caps post, expressing ire: "YOU. ARE. AGAINST. EVERY. THING. JESUS. EVER. TAUGHT."
