President Donald Trump has only good words for her third and current wife Melania as he praised her “style and grace” and defended her RNC speech. He also tried to save her from all the cruel criticisms over her accent as he said that English “is not her first language”. Trump’s admiration for the former model came when Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked him about Melania’s appeal to female voters in an interview that aired on Tuesday, September 1. “They like her, they love her style, her class, her grace. I thought she gave an incredible speech. And you have to understand, it's not her first language,” the POTUS said.

He added: “How many people could come over and make a speech to the world, think of it, no think of it, she did an incredible job.” During the interview, Trump also stated that Melania will actively participate in his re-election campaign. He insisted that the mother-of-one “will be very much involved, she wants to see this be a victory.”

Last week, Melania closed out night two of the RNC in which she addressed the families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as she said “you’re not alone.” There were some who praised her compassionate words, but many reacted unkindly, including singer-songwriter Bette Midler. She kept on slamming Melania as she wrote, “Oh, God. She still can’t speak English.” “beBest is back! A UGE bore! She can speak several words in a few languages. Get that illegal alien off the stage!" the 74-year-old wrote in a Twitter post, saying in another: "#Melania took all the color out of the #RoseGarden but Don tried his utmost to bring some back with that greasy bronzer!"

However, later Midler apologized for her comments after she was heavily slammed on Twitter. She said, “Well, all hell has broken loose because I said Melania 'still can’t speak English' last night. I was wrong to make fun of her accent. America is made up of people who speak with all kinds of accents, and they are all welcomed always."

In her RNC speech, the First Lady also mentioned her migrant background as she said that she “was able to achieve my own American dream”. Born in Novo Mesto, she grew up in Sevnica, in the Yugoslav republic of Slovenia. Melania moved to the US in the 1990s and after marrying Trump in 2005, she got citizenship of America in 2006.

“Growing up as a young child in Slovenia, we were under Communist rule at the time. I always heard about an amazing place called America, a land that stood for freedom and opportunity. As I grew older, it became my goal to move to the United States and follow my dream of working in the fashion industry. My parents worked very hard to ensure our family could not only leave and prosper in America, but also contribute to a nation that allows for people to arrive with a dream and make it reality,” the 50-year-old said in her speech as she thanked her parents. “I want to take the moment to thank my mother and father for all they have done for our family. It is because of you that I am standing here today.”

In her speech, Melania also urged for an end to “the violence and looting” happening “in the name of justice.” “Instead of tearing things down, let’s reflect on our mistakes. Be proud of our evolution and look to a way forward. Every day, let us remember that we are one nation under God and we need to cherish one another,” she added.
