Biden recalls blue-collar roots in Scranton, Internet says Trump won't discuss family as he 'hatched from egg'

'Guys like President Trump, who inherited everything and squandered what they inherited, are the people I’ve always had a problem with,' the Democratic Presidential nominee said

Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden expressed empathy when he brought up his blue-collar roots on Thursday night, September 17, during a Town Hall hosted by CNN in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

“I view this as a campaign between Scranton and Park Avenue,” said Biden, comparing his industrial hometown to Trump posh Manhattan lifestyle. “All that President Trump could see from Park Avenue is Wall Street. All he thinks about is the stock market. How many of you all own stock in Scranton? Not a whole lot of people own stock.”

Painting Trump as a business mogul who only cared about elitists and was uninterested in the challenges faced by everyday Pennsylvanians, Biden said, “Growing up in Scranton, we were used to guys who looked down their noses at us. Look at us and think we’re not equivalent to them. If you don’t have a college degree, you must be stupid. If, in fact, you didn’t go to an Ivy League school."

He also admitted that he was bothered by journalists constantly reminding him that he could be the first president in U.S. history without an Ivy League degree. “What the Hell makes you think I need an Ivy League degree to be president? Guys like me, the first in my family to go to college … we are as good as anybody else,” he said. “And guys like President Trump, who inherited everything and squandered what they inherited, are the people I’ve always had a problem with. Not the people who are busting their necks.”

Biden's responses made talk radio host Michelangelo Signorile remark on Twitter that one does not often see Trump come up with the same kind of impassionate words about his own upbringing. "The #BidenTownHall, in which Biden has referenced his upbringing and Scranton several times, makes me realize Trump never talks about his upbringing. Ever. Never talks about his parents, his family, nothing. It’s like he’s hiding something, or it was horrible. Or both." he said.

His tweet quickly went viral as an increasing number of people agreed with his viewpoint. "Trump also doesn’t talk about his grandchildren. Not for their birthdays, Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays, etc. While I didn’t agree with the Bush presidents, they did seem to be family men, genuinely so," one said, while another commented,  "Until he died, I didn't even know he had a brother." A third commented, "And the only photographs of him with his kids are professional, staged photos. Nothing candid." A fourth remarked, "I'm thinking Mary Trump might have some insight on this!" And a fifth opined, "I think it's neither of those. I think Trump just doesn't hold fondness for anyone but himself. It doesn't occur to him to talk about his family b/c they don't matter to him. There's no connection, no nostalgia, no warmth. He's the center of his own myopic universe."

There were also those who chose a more scathing attack. "Or he was hatched from an egg like the lizard he is," one of them said. Another said that it might be due to his emotionally stunted growth. "It's especially weird if you think about how he really never progressed emotionally past childhood. mentally he's always been the kid who wishes people into the cornfield, and occasionally it works."

One of the more creative users also came up with a hilarious meme to insinuate that Trump was brought up by Satan. "This is why. Would you talk about this family?" the meme was captioned.

This does not mean that Trump supporters did not voice their won opinion on the matter. "Apparently, He wasn’t traumatized like Joe which manifested itself years later in abject senility," one of them said in the POTUS' defense. Another commented, "He’s not a politician and doesn’t need to tell those type of 'stories.' He talks about actions and accomplishments. Big difference. Those stories are all fluff and usually embellished."
