Warner Bros is bringing the live-action adaptation of the iconic doll Barbie to the silver screen with Hollywood biggies Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead. While the much-anticipated flick is already creating a buzz amongst the fans, it is also being rumored that singer and rapper Doja Cat might be roped in for the title track.

Doja Cat, who recently released the track ‘Vegas’ featured in the newly-released biopic ‘Elvis’, might bag another track for the big-budgeted ‘Barbie’. The loyal fans of Nicki Minaj, however, got irked with the news as they felt the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker would be a better fit for the track instead of Doja Cat. The two have earlier joined hands on the 2019 hit single ‘Say So’. Minaj has been associated with the term Barbie for almost a decade and even her fans are dubbed "Barbz".

Is Doja Cat being considered for ‘Barbie’ title track?

According to The Sun’s column Bizarre, a source spilled the beans, “Producers think Doja is a perfect fit for the film and were determined to get her on board,” adding, “They were really impressed with her song on the 'Elvis' soundtrack as well.” The source continued, “Between that and the fact she’s one of the biggest stars on the planet right now it was a no-brainer”, as reported by Tyler Paper.

Doja Cat has not confirmed the news and neither has the studio shared any details on the same. MEAWW will keep you posted. For the uninitiated, 'Barbie' is set to hit the theatres on July 21, 2023. Speaking of her movie earlier, Margot Robbie told Vogue, “It comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t.'"

‘Nicki Minaj is synonymous with ‘Barbie’

Nicki Minaj fans got furious over the rumors as one of the users stated, “Petition to remove doja cat off the Barbie soundtrack and replace her with Nicki!!!.” Another chimed in, “I love Doja, but this is made for Nicki!!! Nicki Minaj is synonymous with ‘Barbie’ & it has been her brand for over a decade. She had all the girls out here referring to  themselves as “barbies” & “barbz.” Like #BarbieMovie & Greta Gerwig better do the right thing!”

The next one stated, “Not me removing all the doja tracks on my playlist.” Whereas, one added, “Nicki is the black barbie. she better be on it.” One fan tweeted, “I’m not mad but Barbie is literally Nicki for over a decade! She even has her own Barbie doll.” Meanwhile, another shared, “We wanted nicki.”

An individual asserted, “Tell her stick to the cat theme or whatever she has going. we want nicki.” And, one concluded, “Listen if Nicki isn’t at least breathing on every track y’all can keep that mf. She better be in the damn movie.”
