'Mandalorian' is coming back in October and 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' airs in August, reveals Disney

Disney chief Bog Iger has reportedly revealed that the successful 'Star Wars' spin-off web series 'Mandalorian' will return with a second season in October. He said this during the company’s earnings call on Tuesday, February 4, according to a report in Variety.

It was also revealed that Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan-starrer 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' is set to premiere in August. Mackie will reprise the role of Sam Wilson aka Falcon while Stan will return to play Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier. The show will see Falcon and the Winter Soldier team up after Falcon is given Captain America's shield at the end of 'Avengers: Endgame'.

The release month of 'WandaVision' which stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision was also revealed as December. The show's plot has not been revealed in detail.

Iger also revealed on call that as of Monday, Disney's streaming service had accrued 28.6M paying subscribers. He further added that creating original content such as 'The Mandalorian' was a good idea as 65% of the subscribers who watched the 'Star Wars' spin-off series also watched 10 other titles on the streaming platform. He was quoted as saying: "The decision that we made to go with quality and not just volume is working."

He also revealed that the company does plan on expanding Hulu globally in 2021 but for now, Disney+ is the priority. Speaking further about 'The Mandalorian', Iger also suggested addition of new characters and with "stories in new directions" which will also open up possibilities for more spin-offs in the future. 

The streaming service which debuted on November 12, 2019, saw more than 10M people sign up for their service on the first day. They have so far premiered shows such as 'Diary of a Future President', 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' in addition to 'The Mandalorian'. Other Marvel originals that will premiere on the streaming platform in the future include 'Hawkeye', 'Loki' and 'What If...?'.
