Spoilers for 'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story'

Episode two titled 'The Turtle and the Aligator' showed us parallel stories of a murder trial and a growing relationship between Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet) and Dan Broderick (Christian Slater). The episode further us showed that Betty had murdered her (at the time) ex-husband Dan and his second wife Linda Broderick (Rachel Keller). As the episode showed us the present with Betty's friends and father testifying, we were also taken back to the couple's early marriage. From Dan becoming an MD and then wanting to become a lawyer because he was suffering through their children's births and passing. It was an episode that established Dan's character a bit and fans slammed the man for treating his wife the way he did.

"Dan took advantage of #Betty during their entire relationship #DirtyJohn," tweeted a viewer. "Dan playing the crazy card...#Betty not CRAZY... she just PISSED OFF!!! #DirtyJohn," tweeted another viewer.

We were shown the struggle that Dan and Betty had gone through, with Dan working and studying, and moving from Cornell Med to Harvard Law with a small family. Betty had spent every moment by his side, keeping a pregnancy she didn't want to because he didn't believe in abortion, to always taking care of the children. "Does Dan ever talk about anything but himself?  #DirtyJohn," tweeted a viewer with another one tweeting, "Look at Betty. Doing all the things. Dan admiring himself in the mirror. #bettybroderick #dirtyjohn."

"Wow. Dan Broderick was a controlling and mentally abusive husband #BettyBroderick #DirtyJohn," tweeted a viewer while another replied, ""I don't wanna be a doctor now." Dan is the WORST! #DirtyJohn."

From their dating days to their early marriage days, we saw how Betty slowly retreated to the background only to serve her family, slowly losing her identity. Dan's insistence that he have three lab coats so his wife "doesn't have to stay up and spot treat just one" is one of the many examples that showed who controlled who in the marriage. "So Dan used Betty and was completely selfish during their entire marriage then he dumps her, I see why she went crazy. #DirtyJohn," tweeted another fan.

Turns out their motto "Image, confidence, success" didn't last too long but who really is to blame? Condoning murder is not the point as fans say they "can see why Betty did what she did."

'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story' airs Tuesdays on the USA Network at 10 pm ET.
