LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A new video has shed more light on the killing of Black cyclist Dijon Kizzee who was riddled with bullets by Los Angeles cops on the afternoon of Monday afternoon, August 31. The grainy but graphic footage posted by Kizzee's lawyer Ben Crump has shown an altercation between the officers and Kizzee. In the video, the 29-year-old was seen running from the cops and falling to the ground before they opened fire.

Kizzee was reportedly visiting his family in LA at the time when he was shot and killed. According to his family’s attorney, Ben Crump, he was shot at least 20 times. The police said on Tuesday, September 1, that Kizzee was riding a bicycle in violation of vehicle codes. When police approached him, he dropped his bicycle and ran. Deputies again tried to contact him and at that point, Kizzee punched one of them in the face. During the altercation, he also dropped his jacket and a black handgun fell to the ground. As the man “made a motion toward” the weapon, cops shot and killed him.

However, the newly-emerged video has provided a different angle to the whole incident. The clip showed a figure, believed to be Kizzee, running followed by two officers. An altercation also occurred as seen in the video, however, as the cyclist stumbled and fell to the ground, cops opened fire. The video also showed dust in the air as the officers shot him numerous times while he was on the ground.

Witnesses’ statements have also provided a different perspective than the police. One witness, Latiera Irby, said she was visiting her mother in the neighborhood when Kizzee came up to her on the street. “He said, ‘They’re coming to get me; they’re coming to get me',” Irby said. He also offered her money to take him away from the area. “I didn’t know who he was running from, so I told him no,” the woman added. She also mentioned that Kizzee “had nothing in his hands.”

Another witness, identified as Alida Trejo, said she heard around 8-11 gunshots. “They say the man punched the deputy, but I never saw that happen,” the 52-year-old said. Trejo’s 16-year-old daughter was in another room when she heard sounds of firing and her mother’s scream. She ran outside and found her mother crying and saying: “They killed him. They killed him.”

Another video has shown the moment after Kizzee was shot dead. In the clip, he was lying motionless while four cops handcuffed his dead body. The video has screams of witnesses who can be heard saying, “how are you going to handcuff a dead man?” and “Black Lives Matter,” The Daily Mail reported.

Authorities have neither provided any detail on what vehicle code Kizzee was violating, nor released any bodycam footage of the incident. They have also not given the exact number of how many times the man was hit by bullets. However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said on September 1 that the two deputies who fired at Kizzee have been placed on desk duty while the investigation goes on. No detail on the other two officers has been given.
