Debbie Reynolds was ready for Christmas dinner when Carrie Fisher had fatal heart attack: ‘The table just sat there’
Actress Debbie Reynolds loved the Christmas season so much that she had a tree up all year round. However, Christmas 2016, which was to be her final holiday, was marred by tragedy.
In an interview, Sue Cameron, Debbie Reynold's friend, said: "When Carrie [Fisher] was flying in on the plane [from London], Debbie had already made sure the table was set. The menu, everything."
This is when news came in about Fisher having a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles, just two days before Christmas on December 23.
Fisher died on December 27, 2016, after being in intensive care for four days at the age of 60 at the UCLA Medical Center. Reynolds died the day after her daughter’s death from a stroke at the age of 84.
The family — which included Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd — would never enjoy the feast Debbie Reynolds had prepared. "There was no Christmas dinner," Cameron shared. "The table just sat there."
For Cameron, winter holiday holds bittersweet memories — but despite the sudden passing of the two acting greats, Cameron said three years later that "it's almost as if they've never really gone."
According to her, "in a way, they've never left because there are constant reminders about their lives... 'Star Wars' is back and Carrie's daughter, Billie [Lourd], is becoming a star."
On Christmas day, Billie Lourd shared a throwback photo of herself as a baby with mom Fisher and grandmother Reynolds. "Sending my love to everyone who has lost someone they loved and is missing them a little extra today. I see you," she wrote in the photo caption.
"Don’t grieve in silence. You're not alone," she added. Lourd also shared a video of herself singing John Prine's 'Angel from Montgomery' in memory of her late mother on December 27, on the third anniversary of her mother's death.
