Ben Gibbard, the lead vocalist of Indie rock band 'Death Cab for Cutie' has taken to live streaming from his home studio amid the coronavirus pandemic and has shared a new video of him performing a 'Radiohead' cover of 'Fake Plastic Trees'. Many artists have been holding solitary, home-based jam sessions to cheer up fans in the ongoing times.

On Tuesday, March 17, the 43-year-old singer announced that he will be performing daily and also sharing those videos on YouTube and Facebook. He started his first broadcast featuring numerous songs from 'Death Cab for Cutie' and 'The Postal Service tracks'.

Gibbard also shared his views on the global pandemic when announcing the new videos and wrote in a letter, “I know you are all freaked out right now. I am, too. And while I’m proud that we’re all doing the necessary things at the moment to help flatten the curve, I know it has left us incredibly isolated”, as reported by Rolling Stone. Gibbard said, "Be it with DCFC, Postal Service, or solo, I have always been grateful for the honor you have bestowed upon us by choosing to congregate en masse around our music”. He further added saying, “Some of you have traveled great distances and/ or shelled out large sums of money to see us play and that has never been lost on me. So in this crazy unprecedented time, I’d like to return my favor by coming to you.”

Ben Gibbard most notably as the frontman and guitarist for Death Cab for Cutie was also the singer for the electronica group 'The Postal Service'. Originally a solo project by Gibbard, the band 'Death Cab for Cutie' released its debut album 'Something About Airplanes' in 1998. It wasn't until 2003, when they broke out into the mainstream with their commercial and critically acclaimed fourth album 'Transatlanticism'. Apart from numerous Grammy nominations including Best Rock Album for the 2016 LP 'Kintsugi', Best Rock Song for their 2009 hit 'I Will Possess Your Heart', and more, 'Death Cab for Cutie' has won the Best Editing Grammy Award for 'I Will Possess Your Heart'.

They have produced a number of hits including 'Soul Meets Body, ''I Will Follow You Into The Dark' and 'Black Sun'.

Before playing the 'Fake Plastic Trees' cover, Gibbard shared a brief story of a serene trip he took along with his wife Rachel around Washington state. He explained that the two of them listened to a lot of music at the time and one of the songs they heard was Radiohead's 'Fake Plastic Trees', which inspired the new live-stream performance.
